Terrible experience, first, there are rats!! The manager response to that was ''This is New York, there will be rats'' Toilet constantly gets blocked, their response was ''it's the forth floor it happens when it's so high up'' (Well i have stayed in hotels 10 floors and more high, never had that problem.) They overcharged my credit card three times... More

All this hotel has is a good location. That's it. We had rats on two occasions, our toilet got blocked on 3 occasions and the room was never cleaned properly. It has no elevator have to carry bags up numerous flights of stairs. Some staff and owner are nice but manager is very rude. Would never stay here again no... More

First they said they wanted 10% of the room price as a reservation guarantee. When they took more than 4 times that amount, I called them to inquire as to why. They told me everything was fine and that the amount would go towards the room. However, when I showed up this was not the case. They wanted to charge... More

I stayed at Chelsea Star for 5 nights in oct. 2010. The rooms are a bit dated. The bed was horrible since the matress was cover in plastic under the sheet (probably to avoid bedbugs), and the plastic was crankling at night. The rooms has thin walls. The location is wonderful with everything within walking distance. The staff were friendly... More

Like others who have reviewed, I was skeptical of the cheapish price and exterior of the building. But boy was I wrong! My friend and I shared a Dorm room with 2 bunkbeds in May 2011. We got upgraded from a 4-person dorm to our own 2-person room as it was available and the staff thought it would be nicer.... More

I stayed at the Chelsea Star for 6 nights in December and wanted to share my pro's and con's. The only thing I could fault the hotel on was that our room was facing 8th Avenue and was very noisy, especially Friday night and was constantly woken up by traffic. Also the shower on the 1st floor was cold and... More

Stay in room # 302 with own bathroom, avoid the rooms facing the street, they aree too noisy! Overall, a clean place to get some rest, shower and get out to the city. Subways and Buses are 3 blocks away. More

We stayed at the Star for 3 nights in late October, 2011. We stayed in a "superior" room, which included a queen bed, a desk, a private bath, and a small safe which fit our laptop. We paid $199.00 a night when we stayed mid-week. The room was small, but there was plenty of room for two suitcases and two... More

I was recommended this hotel by a friend, and unfortunately something must have happened between her staying there and me staying there... The room was clean, although the linen was just provided (clean sheet - not sure if the blanket had been washed) bed was not actually made. My room had the bed built into the wall and an open... Chelsea Star Hotel is the best value for money in an expensive, world-class city like New York. I stayed in the 'dormitory' accommodation. At $ 60.00 per night, in a secure, clean facility - it was very good value. Comparable private accommodation in "chain hotels" seemed to start at $ 350.00 per night which is excessive. This was November 2011.... More
