We stayed for a Saturday and Sunday weekend getaway. The location was unbeatable. Walking distance to Chinatown, Little Italy, SoHo and Chelsea. Short cab/bus/subway ride to downtown and midtown locations. Staff was outstanding. Mary, the Housekeeping manager, was extremely helpful and pleasant. Went out of her way to make sure all was well, All the desk staff were very accomodating... More

The hotel is right between East Village and SOHO, perfect location for us with plenty of good bars and restaurants around, and also few breakfast places. We shared the room with 3 girls which was ok, but bit small with our luggague. The beds were comfy but room in overall very basic. The aircon/heater was a bit strange, bit too... More

My room on the 6th floor was a great size, and I loved the bed. The staff is stellar at cool botique hotel, its funky but still sophisticated.... More

Took a chance on a recommendation on twitter and showed up to The Gem slightly nervous having not checked it out properly. I needn't have worried. This place is a real treat. Right by the East Village, SoHo and Broadway - this was a perfect location for me (great bars, breakfast joints and restaurants). It's right beside the F train... More

Overall the day staff was great and friendly, but the night staff did not handle unruly pot-smoking/drunk college students. The aforementioned would head to the roof, slamming the door to the staircase constantly with open containers The hallways reek of pot, and the disturbance forced us to leave the room at 12:30 am. When we returned at 2:30 am, the... More

We needed a place to stay in New York and GEM was the perfect as they had availability and were not too outlandishly priced (really, if a hotel rooms are going for more than $150 per night, there needs to be more rooms in the city). We ended up staying 4 nights and found the location to be handy to... More

I grew up in NYC and always feel a bit insane returning and paying for a hotel. Gem is a fantastic find. I stayed there in October while on business in the city. The location is great. A short walk to lower east side galleries, the New Museum, and SOHO restaurants. Prune, one of the city's greatest dining spots is... More

The Soho Gem did what I needed on my business trip - neat and tidy room, everything worked and a very comfortable bed. A little bit off the beaten track in relation to the subway network and I should have specified not to have a room overlooking Houston Street as it's pretty noisy, but otherwise certainly recommended as a value... We only planned to stay for two nights in NYC, so location was everything when looking for a place to stay. The Gem is perfectly situated just off Bowery with plenty of shopping and eating experiences within a short walking distance. The rooms are clean with a modern look and the beds big and comfy. There was no minibar or... More

Anthony and Keith you made our holiday stay the best! This hotel I would recommend mainly for the friendliness of the staff. They were great and every day always had great recommendations of places to eat/see. If you had a problem with the room- theyd fix it. Sure the rooms are small but I was purely there to sleep and...
