The place has a great charm and character. It`s location is good, near Harvard University and the staff is very nice and helpful. However, it is not appropriate for people with mobility problems or if you are not strong enough to carry your bags upstairs. When I made my reservation I told them in advance that I was traveling with... More

Thank you for your comments. I have brought your review to the attention of my front desk staff, as we do try to assign rooms on lower floors to those who cannot navigate the stairs easily. While this is not always possible, it is a high priority. Some of the rooms on the fourth floor, while quieter, are also a... More

This is a quiet, friendly, clean, very well-located place to stay in Cambridge. What is more, they earned my great gratitude when I realized, upon returning to California, that I had left my prescription sunglasses at their hotel. They found them and mailed them back to me the very next day!

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay! The day I had to send your glasses back was packed with busy things, but getting your package out gave me an excuse to greet the day....We hope to see you again some time when your travels bring you back to Cambridge! More

I stayed at the Irving House on 3/16/13 overnight. My son & I attended a St.Patrick's Celtic Sojourn show in Sanders Theatre (Memorial Hall), in Harvard Yard. Our room was quite roomy, very clean and neat. It contained a double bed (for my son), and a twin bed that pulled out. It was quite comfortable, with built in shelves for... More

I am quite pleased that my husband and I chose to stay at Irving House this past weekend, as this B&B is charming and adorable, and in a great location. Our room (including the bathroom) was very clean and well-stocked with extra pillows and blankets. The common room has a great variety of magazines to peruse and a computer for... More

I stayed here for a work event as it's just 2 blocks from Memorial Hall at Harvard. That and the breakfast were the best things about this place. The hotel itself is fine -- it's clean and comfortable. My room was very small but serviceable and did need some updating -- a new coat of paint would do wonders. My... More

Thank you for your kind review. I have shown it to my desk staff as your comment about our not accepting packages for guests does not reflect our policy. I am not sure how you heard that, but I am working to ensure that any inquiring guest is made aware that we do accept packages for arriving guests, have done... More

Irving House proved to be ideally located for my January term, just a 5-minute walk from Harvard Yard. Staff are friendly and service-minded, and I was particularly impressed by the number of "green" awards this B&B has won. From solar panels on the roof, composting, organic foods on the (tasty) breakfast table, and much more, Irving House sets a good... More

Irving House provided such a comfortable and relaxing stay for our first stay in the Cambridge and Boston area in July of 2012. It is set on a quiet and peaceful street with such close proximity to the beautiful grounds of Harvard and the quick eats that a college town provides. We absolutely loved wandering the streets back to Irving... More

Thank you for your appreciative review! I agree with you that individual control of room temperature would be a great thing. I have been seeking solutions to this challenge since the beginning of our operations in 1990. So far, technology is not where we wish it were. However, we have not given up, and will continue looking, to solve both... More

It was a perfect way to be introduced to Boston and Cambridge. Away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Boston, but within reach of the sites by long walk (or easy train). Staying at Irving House wasn't too disimilar to visiting my own family house. I immediately felt comfortable. This review is quite late. I'm really catching up on... More

I was in Cambridge for a meeting at Harvard and our colleagues reserved us rooms for 2 nights at the Irving house. This is not a hotel and if you want all the conveniences of a hotel, then this is not your place. I stayed in a nice room with a nice double bed and small bathroom on the 4th... More

It's more than an ordinary B&B, less than a regular hotel, and comfortable enough for a week's stay. Watch out if you have heavy luggage or disabilities, though, and request a first-floor room. Rooms are comfortable and ours was handicapped-accessible (though we didn't ask for it) and large. The bed was extremely comfy and I slept very well. The breakfast... More
