Do not stay here. It’s not a resort. It’s some distance from the lake. We thought we could hire bikes but were given no help to do so. We went on a nice hike it with the help of people we met along the road. The receptionist had been given a charm bypass.

This place needs work. Bathrooms are small, rooms are generally outdated as is carpet. We had an unfortunate incident where there were lots of bugs in our room, luckily we were transferred into a much nicer room. Breakfast was what you would expect at a Motel 6, and certainly not a place like this for the price… Only saving grace was Chris was nice and helpful. We wouldn’t return,it’s lost it’s charm.

Do not book here. The sidewalks are dangerous. No signage at night, greatly overpriced. Very poor breakfast room and offerings. Staff were pleasant but not helpful. Parking is limited close to the main building.

Extremely accommodating and friendly front desk staff all week, very helpful. Nice, large room. Great bed! Beautiful view of the pond and mountains. Great location and scenery, very close to the lake. Will be coming back! Thank you so much.

tl,dr: Do not stay here in the summer, there is no resort, the place is a shambles. It started the day before we checked in- I was browsing the website we used to book the hotel to see if our unit had a washing machine (it didn’t), and came across dozens of new, negative reviews. My wife and I, generally positive people who make the best of any situation, disregarded them (mistake #1). “We will barely stay in our room, we’ll be at the beach, pool and resort!” (Mistake #2). As we drove up to the “resort”, we admired the surroundings and hyped ourselves and kids up. As we got closer the GPS sent us past what looked like a hotel area with golf course and straight into some kind of construction. This wasn’t on the hotel but they can get Google to fix this. We circled back and decided to checkout the area that was labeled “Calabogie Peaks Resort” instead of “Calabogie Peaks Hotel” to figure out where to go. It turned out that- gasp- they were the same (Surprise #1). We headed inside and checked in- we were staying in one of the condos so we got our keys and bracelets for the “resort” and went to our room. Staff was very nice and accommodating. They did inform us that that the hot tub - a big selling point for our family - was closed. For…reasons. Apparently it’s been closed since the pandemic, but the pool is open? The hot tub is outside. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I started to bring our stuff up and had to pause as the floor just outside our condo was littered with bird poop and dead bugs. Kind of gross and unsanitary, but we forge on… Our condo itself was decent. It was fairly clean and had a lot of supplies - so good job there. We would learn the next morning that the cleanliness was really surface level- as we found several dirty dishes, and the coffee maker still had used coffee grinds in it, and the carafe hadn’t been cleaned out. No big deal, really, but starting to paint a picture. The AC was also quite good on the first floor but didn’t make its way upstairs. We were finally settled in and ready for dinner. The restaurant at the hotel was closed so we went to the Redneck Bistro- highlight of our trip to Calabogie. On the way back from dinner we decided to swing by the “Resort” and see what it was like- except we couldn’t find it. We did see a small beach with a few boats to use. This is when we started to think we had made a mistake. We went to bed, and got up ready for breakfast. We made our way to the main building to the breakfast room. 😬 This was the beginning of the end for us. There was cold waffles, bread, oatmeal packets, yogurt and some pre-made breakfast sandwiches in the fridge. This was perhaps the saddest hotel breakfast I’ve ever seen. At this point why offer it unless it’s to be able to say “Free Breakfast” on your website to attract guests - which seems to fit with the theme of this entire establishment. We took a few waffles for the kids and headed out for breakfast elsewhere - this was our own mistake because there were literally no options - anywhere. Ok, yogurt it is. We then we’re looking to go on a hike, but wanted to grab some water before we went (the water in our room didn’t taste great). I assumed the gym might have a water dispenser, so we went there. It DID have a water dispenser but it was unplugged. We happened to spot the pool for the first time then- and that was the end. It was murkier than the lake. We went to the front desk and said we were dissatisfied and wanted to cancel the rest of our trip. The staff seemed completely unsurprised, and let us cancel. We quickly packed up, and headed home. Pros Accommodating staff Gorgeous views in the area Cons Filthy pool No hot-tub Kids playground is ancient and sad The hotel and facilities are all super poorly kept up Tennis / makeshift basketball court is a shambles Tiny beach - no staff Summary: This place is a bait and switch. There’s a reason the hotel and resort has two listings, it’s to confuse guests and make it seem like there is more to the place than there is. Note to management: Spend less time responding to reviews, and more time and money on repairing your facility- then work on your reputation.

The worst welcome we have ever received. We arrived about midday to find a Spartan event going on around the hotel. It was a bit annoying because it made access to the hotel challenging. This was no excuse for the attitude of the receptionist. When I entered there was no greeting. She was seated and didn’t move from her chair. I said we had a reservation. She didn’t even bother to ask my name. Just said “the room won’t be ready until 4pm” . She didn’t even apologise. She could have said “sorry your room isn’t ready yet”. We asked if we could bring in our luggage She said “no, we haven’t space”. There was an enormous lounge for employees next to the reception with no one in sight, our luggage would have occupied a small part of this. We asked if we could use the loo. The matter of fact reply was that it was down to the left, no “of course”. When we did return much later the welcome was no better. Given the reception and the rather dingy hotel entrance we were not feeling optimistic. However the bedroom was bright, comfortable and modern with very good facilities. The food in the on-site but independent restaurant was excellent.

This is a small but comfortable hotel in a wonderful location, right on a lake with swimming and various non-powered water sports included. A basic continental breakfast is also included. Be aware that there is a lot of construction around the site, especially on the road to the lake. Also that the on-site restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We wanted to stay somewhere on the edge of the wilderness and this fitted the bill. You need a hire car to get here. We drove from Toronto and the scenery was spectacular as was each day out. Staff on reception were friendly and helpful and we couldn't speak more highly of Iris, the Swiss manager of the restaurant. Great evening meal selection and she was so welcoming. Do be prepared for a different breakfast experience than normal. As the hotel only has 25 rooms, it makes sense that they don't do a staffed breakfast. It is a self serve, but you do get a choice of breaksfast english mufifns with fillings to microwave or your usual continental selection. Our booking included access to the beach club and wish we had more time to enjoy it. The snack bar has a basic selection of food and drink, but it was enough for us. The rooms are big and offer great views on either side. When we were there, they were in the middle of improvements in the grounds, but it wasn't obtrusive.

Effectively, the hotel amenities are shut, pools, outdoor activities, and also, there is work ongoing at the entrance to the hotel, and access was blocked. We arrived and cancelled immediately. Very disappointing. Maybe this hotel will be nice again in the future but take care for the recent reviews

I totally blame myself for not paying enough attention to the negative reviews about this place. I would warn everyone not to stay here. Started off with booking a king suite with a kitchenette. The room smelled like a wet dog. It was dirty with stained carpets and stained couch and outdated decor. In need of updates for sure. I knew this going in, but was still surprised by the state of the room. The bed sagged into the middle, so even though a king size, my husband and I felt like we were in a double. Breakfast was included but the cream is left out and not refrigerated. Two of the ones I opened were sour. Pre made breakfast sandwiches are available to warm up. Juice ( only apple) and some muffins bagels etc. The next dilemma was no hot water. I called front desk from my cell because the room phone doesn’t work. Told maintenance would check into it. No word back, so tried to shower in barely Luke warm water. Spoke to front desk again and we were eventually offered to be moved to one of the condos. We lugged our luggage to a different building. Much better. Newer and had hot water. Went to main hotel in morning for coffee. There was a coffee maker in condo, but no coffee. Then we were given one package of coffee and one filter. The lady at the front desk was very nice, but I suggest you stay elsewhere at all costs.
