Mel, Rex (ably assisted by Mollie the Border Collie) were the consummate hosts - welcoming, personable, easy to relax and chat with, and both able and willing to suggest places and restaurants to explore while we stayed there. The special touches made all the difference - beautiful home-made breakfasts (including their own preserves and home-made bread) and the lovely touch... More

It is always a treat for us when we know a stay is around a special occasion and we can spoil our guests a little! So, thank you for your review and I hope you enjoy your painting "On the way to Milford". More

Melanie and Rex looked after us brilliantly after we had completed the Rail Trail from Middlemarch to Clyde. Beautiful house, great breakfast and even tried the wine they get produced themselves (a nice drop!) and a spa pool to relax in. Their dog (Mollie) is part of the experience - a real character (loves to chase shining lights). Rex dropped... More

Thank you for your lovely review. Being here to see the Clyde Food and Wine Festival was an added bonus. You will have to come back and really explore around the hills bike trails and amazing goldmining history. More

Melanie, Rex & Mollie are very amiable, but discrete hosts. You'll get a warm welcome to their fascinating character home; you'll enjoy good food, a cozy guest lounge & a great sleep. Sure, the bathroom is a little detached from the bedroom, but subtle lighting guides the way at night. Thanks guys for a great start to our weekend 'road... More

A wonderful house, congenial hosts & a great start to our adventure holiday. Food was superb. 15 OUT OF 10 ! The bedroom was so comfortable . Grounds were picturesque. Conveniently located just off the centre of town above the river. So peaceful & quiet. Go back in a heartbeat.

Hartley's Homestead was a great place to stay after our two and a half day cycle of the Otago Rail Trail from Middlemarch through to Clyde. The grounds are lovely and there is plenty of outdoor space to chill out, the rooms were tastefully done (very large comfy beds) and breakfast was delicious (lots of home made fruits and jams).... An amazing and beautiful place to stay. The beds are like sleeping on a cloud. Was a relaxing night spent before my big day. The perfect place for a wedding as Melanie and Rex made every so easy and relaxed, great hosts. Loved the spa. Thanks.

We stayed 2 nights in March 2013 and enjoyed the excellent hospitality of Melanie and Rex in their delightful Hartley Homestead with so many interesting features of a hundred year old property. Spacious mature garden with prolific fruit trees and their own Pinot Noir vines together with Bellbirds singing in this tranquil location. We loved Melanie's breakfast and struggled to... More

It was a very nice place to stay (2 nights) before and after our rail trail cycle trip. The hosts Melanie and Rex are very kind and friendly. Mollie their dog was very sweet and a nice company. They also advised us about the trip and the surroundings and where we could have dinner. We made a lovely walk through... More

We stayed at Hartley Homestead Boutique b & b for a night when we had a wedding down that way recently. Melanie and Rex were wonderful hosts, and so was there friendly dog Molly. We stayed for 1night after finishing the rail trail. The owners are very friendly and were keen to make us feel at home. The grounds are really beautiful with a lovely country garden with gazebo. Our room looked out on the front garden, was stylish and had a real touch of elegance. Only small point for consideration was that our... More
