This was a great experience, the high tea was great, ample variety and the service from the young German waiter was great, he was polite, helpful and willing to indulge us oldies answering questions, we hope you enjoy the rest of your travels in New Zealand. The trip was well worth while.

We stayed for two nights in May for a wedding. Our room was very small with a tv that could only manage two fuzzy channels. Very dated and screaming out for a coat of paint and some cleaning. The building its self is very impressive and the bar/restaurant is very nice if you don't mind paying a bit more than... More

We arrived at the Chateau and thought wow its gorgeous and inside it really is grand...it was freezing cold and wet so we couldn't go outside and look around but it was nice and relaxing inside. I wasn't impressed with the reception service the girl didn't seem excited or interested...I had mentioned I felt really dizzy when I was checking... More

Had a great weekend here and couldn't fault the place. The room was quiet and warm and tastefully furnished, the dinner and breakfast buffets were all you could want and the entertainment spectacular. Best of all, the staff actually care and we enjoyed our interactions with them. If location location location means anything at all, it is important on Mt... More

I always try to visit the Chateau Tongariro a couple of times a year and have done so since the 1980's. This wonderful iconic hotel is set on the side of Mount Ruapehu active Volcano in the Tongariro National Park, so its location is something special. The building itself has real character, not a glass tower but an impressive Chateau... More

Awesome place. A lot of older people and few families also. More of a destination than a stopover if your road tripping. Ski season would be killer busy! Gotta drive 30 min off main road and no petrol/shops in sight. Fantastic hospitality from the moment you arrive. Foyer is amazing 1930's feel. Rooms are good ageing a little. Whole place... More

We're very much budget travellers and had always wanted to stay at the Chateau. Taking advantage of the discounted tariff we booked 2 nights and had dinner in the restaurant our first night opting for their signature dish, Chateau Briand. The food and service was fabulous. The staff throughout the hotel excellent, very helpful and obliging. We did one of... More

My group and I have just finished staying here for a week and I have to say - WOW! The location (while wet) (but then - tis the season) was remote and gorgeous. Nothing felt more swag than sitting in leather chairs in front of a roaring fireplace drinking JW Blue with my friend. Carson and Richard made some amazing... More

I stayed for one rainy night in April, having booked due to the poor weather forecast and looking forward to be holed up in a comfortable and warm environment. The old lady is tired and needs the attention of a very good hotelier to breath some life back into the property. I'm on a 5 month RTW and am not... More

My husband and I stayed here for two nights on a 4 week holiday in New Zealand. It is a charming hotel with old world character and excellent food both in the bistro and the restaurant. The restaurant is pricey but is part of the chateau experience and worth. Our room was immaculate and well appointed. However our big disappointment... More
