Stayed here for a week while working in the nearby fish farm with two other colleagues top class welcome and best ever breakfast. The Shalimar is very clean and nice and warm with a friendly atmosphere and the proprietor Ben very helpful with his hospitality. If you're planning a trip up to or near Mallaig make this place your first... More

This is a very handy stop off en route to one of the islands reached by ferry from Mallaig. This B&B has a slightly "old fashioned" feel to it. The room is a bit cluttered and the black and white colour scheme not really to my taste but it has everything that you could need. The only problem with the... More

Fab start to the stay as I was met at the station and had a lift to the B&B and then dropped back into town as it was raining to get a bite to eat. Excellent recommendations of where to eat and grab a few drinks in the evening. Ben is also very helpful in suggesting places to go and... More

A typical B and B with rather OTT decor and perhaps more "personal attention" than I need, but the welcome is warm and the proprietor is interesting, with a fund of stories. He directed us to good places to eat and places to avoid. Immense and splendid breakfast, but we did not need to be supervised as we attempted to... More

We arrived late in the evening, in the middle of a storm. We were positively surprised by the most welcoming atmosphere. The clean rooms and perfect service astonished us. Ben even found a large box of toys for our toddler. Beds were big and comfy, bathrooms well equipped and the view to the sea was spectacular. Ben kept us posted... More

This B&B was booked at short notice, owner did not want a deposit, very trusting! We were met by the owner when we arrived at the train station and transported to the B&B. Then alongwith two other 'residents' were given a tour of the surrounding areas, very good and informative. Then dropped off in the town for dinner. Next morning... More

What an enjoyable stay. I picked somewhere more or less at random from a Google search and am glad this was the one I chose. Ben is a fantastic host, as eager to hear of your plans as he is to impart his widespread knowledge of the area. The property is a loverly modern house on the outskirts of the... More

Immaculate fresh modern double room with power shower. Recommend for homely friendly feel, Ate well cooked breakfast around communal table. Personal attention ensured Mallaig is shown off to its best. Requested a packed lunch which was made with care and enough to feed me for 2 days . Owner is a legend for service with a smile

We took the train (mostly) through Scotland as a friend told us that it is the best way to see the Scottish highlands. We stopped at Mallaig for one night after a unforgettable train journey from Fort William to Mallaig. Ben picked us up from the station and gave us an impromptu tour around Mallaig before we got to the... More

Just back from spending 2 nights with Ben at Shalimar. Ben could not have done any more than he did to make us welcome from meeting us at the train station, giving us a tour of the area to find our bearings as it was our first time to the area. Then booking our ferry from Arisaig to Eigg and... More
