This is a very basic tented camp. The people were friendly and the setting is lovely – right on the river. Food was good. Each tent has its own bathroom and it was all fairly clean but it is only a step above camping and, as with the rest of India, everything is a little bit tatty. BE WARNED, they... More

We were delighted with this beautiful retreat having just stayed in bust Kochi and been somewhat disappointed with the lack of charm of that city compared with the glowing guidebook descriptions. Hornbill camp is extremely simple, but perfectly comfortable and with superb service from delightful staff. The setting by the slow moving river is idyllic and we were sorry to... More

Stayed at the Hornbill Camp for one night in late January. What a beautiful, calm and relaxing place to stay after a day of bicycling. The kayak tour up the river and into the bird sanctuary was wonderful! Our Naturalist was a great addition to the tour. Especially as the King Cobra came swimming by! Tents are charming, and clean... We stayed two nights and it was the ideal place to combine with a Cochin visit. The River Periyar is so calm and peaceful here because the opposite bank is a nature reserve so none of the ubiquitous river life. Also there are no motor boats on this stretch of the river. We went kayaking from the camp which well... More

Great location ! If your asking for luxury, its not the place for you. The team is very good. They looked after us very well. Adventure activities were very well organised. You must go kayaking in the river. Its a very romatic place.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights at Hornbill Camp. It's hard not to - the place is so serene! The tents are right on the river, the sunsets beautiful, and we could hear wild elephants in the forest at night! We felt very relaxed and well taken care of. The manager, Danesh, was fantastic - very warm and eager to... More

My wife and I stayed for 3 days at the Hornbill Camp, on a birdwatching holiday with friends. The setting is serene, quiet except for the sound of nature. There were some birds on the property itself (I include a few photos), and it was a good base for many good birding locations in the surrounding area. The accommodations are... More

This safari-style camp, beside the river, was an oasis of peace and quiet amongst the hustle and bustle of Kerala. We were a group of four birders travelling with our own guide, so used the camp purely for accommodation and food. Both were excellent; the tents were clean and confortable and hot water was reliably available. The food, served in... More

The Hornbill camp besides the Periyar river is an outstanding property to consider for a trip to Dr.Salim Ali bird sanctuary. The eco friendly huts complimented with the superb staff which knows a thing or two about bird watching make this a superb place to stay at. The food is excellent and the activities like kayaking, nature trails, cycling, etc... More
