I recently had the privilege to dine at Wharekauhau Estate for lunch with some very lucky clients. The trip started with an incredible helicopter flight from Wellington docklands, over the Rimutaka Mountain range, and down into the Wairarapa. Seeing the Wairarapa for the first time by air was breathtaking, and views out to the sea were just beautiful. We landed... More

Heaven on earth here: a few thousand acres of green hills, gullys, gorges, panoramic sheep pastures, all rolling down to beach and sparkling turquoise waters. Luxury does not begin to describe the sumptuous feeling of the Cotswald-style inn itself, where exquisite meals and scrupulously paired local wines are served to the very few guests who can afford this stellar level... Planned a lovely weekend in the Wairarapa and this was our treat for lunch. Probably the best food in the area with exceptional service. Staff where attentive and showed us around the lodge in a very friendly way. Couldn't find fault. Its just nice.

After a memorable lunch here some 7 years ago, it was with some apprehension that we decided to make a return visit. We were accompanied by two of our friends who are no strangers to the life of good food and wines. We travelled by car from Wellington, a 2 hour drive on another of the north islands exceptional sunny... More

Helicoptering in and landing at the front door of Wharekauhau is special. But the staff and management made it that much more perfect. Anything you asked for was no problem and done for you in seconds. From the second you arrive, they were there to show you around, learn about you and your interests, and assist, in any way they... My girlfriend and I had been saving for several months to come to Wharekauhau after my parents got married here. Everything was perfect, the service, the room, the food, the wine, the environment. The staff were exceptional. They went above and beyond to meet any request. The ATV tour is a MUST do! As one other guest wrote - "Sell... More

This is the best Lodge I ever stay in New Zealand, from all points. From the moment we arrive at Wellington Ferry terminal, pick up service by Paul was wonderful. And when we arrive Wharekauhau warm greeting by Richard who introduce us to the rest of staff as well as give tour of the Lodge facilities. The Villa is beautifully... More

If you ever had a dream of staying in the most down to earth up market lodge then this is the place. The staff are all very welcoming. We stayed in one of the cottages with a amazing view over the ocean. The cottages are very comfortable, beautiful bathrooms and just a short distance from the main lodge. It feels... More

It has been a number of years since I have visited Wharekauhau, and it was pleasing to see that not only was it as stunning as it always was but the property has continued to be developed and improved. I loved the addition of the games room and reliable wi-fi in a remote and spread-out estate is an achievement. The... More

We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of October and had a fantastic time. Wharekauhau is far off the beaten path but well worth the long drive to get there. We were given a warm greeting by Richard, the lodge manager, who personally gave us a full tour of the lodge. We stayed in one of the cottages... More
