If you want a Holiday Inn experience, this hotel may not work! If you want a traditional Thailand experience, this is the best place. The rooms are air-conditioned, beds are made every day, pillows are great, washroom and shower are outside but privately enclosed. It's very important to have shaded areas to recline and enjoy the ocean view. Many hotels lack shade, but Chivaree is great. The pool is ocean front, the beach is beyond excellent. Restaurant has the best cook on Chao Lao. Breakfasts are excellent but don't expect European sausages! Staff are kind and very accommodating. I will only stay at Chivaree and return yearly, sometimes for a month or more.

My fourth visit to Chivaree. Staying a month this time. It's not a Hyatt but better in most ways! Walked a few miles down the beach this morning, saw four locals and two tourists, that's all. Peace on Earth, literally. Merry Christmas

Simply a great place to stay! Location location location. Beautiful property on the beach. Staff top notch at every level. From check-in to check out pure pleasure. My only regret is that I cannot live here.

My favourite resort on Chao Lao Beach! This is Thailand, nothing is perfect but the resort and all staff are trying hard to please their guests. The pool was excellent, the ocean clean and beautiful in front of the resort. I loved the private outdoor shower and facilities with palm trees overhead, and stars at night. There is ample shade from the hot sun. Every meal that we had was excellent and typical Thai. Don’t forget, this is Thailand, where cheese, croissants and blood sausages, etc. are not typical food and it’s unrealistic to expect such. This is the land of smiles, coconuts, beautiful beaches, and palm trees! This is Paradise in my opinion! I hope to go back for a month next year.

This is not a 'resort' or 'hotel', this is a 'Thai camping' and should be merchandised as such! The management asks Western prices and offers Thai (=NO) comfort at all! No activities were organised. / Beyond the borders of this camping is the third world. / Awfull breakfast: no fresh bread, no croissant, no cheese, no (individual portions of) marmelade, ... / Very poor hygiene: Toilet (and wet toilet seat and paper) and shower are outside. / The musquito netting has never been washed. / The whole site smells like cat piss. / Mice are running up and down at night (or during the day time around the swimming pool). / The staff is the worst: I asked for a soda, but I couldnt get one because I did not bring my own glass (?????) / Very unsafe place: it is not possible to lock the front door!, no safety glass in the doors or windows, elektric cabling in the gutter next to the pool, etcetera.

The bungalows in lana style next to the beach are nice, toilet/shower outside is a matter of habit, an adventure to go to toilet while it is raining on your head. In rainy season the pathways are under water, compensate of level with more stones would be good. Breakfast buffet first morning was good, next day only breakfast from kitchen, so far OK but the tablecloth still from day before :-(. NO drinks/cocktail at the bar next to beach, all the liquors are there but no staff to prepare cocktails on a weekend :-(.

it's very nice place to be, a bit pricey but the stuff is very friendly and helpful ( very unusual for typical Thai style resorts). And as you know the stuff is everything, because they know how to serve and keep it clean. Their restaurant is very good and a barista is excellent, super friendly , yet not curious, very polite, very well trained, lots of experience, makes wonderful cocktails and traditional Thai dishes, khanom like nam dok mai mango with coconut milk and sweet sticky rice. Chalets are nice, but the most important is that the area is very nice and quiet, a small garden en style and makes atmosphere even more peaceful. There are pools with fishes and a big pool with amazing turquoise water where you can refresh yourself after a warm bath in the sea ( it's just 10 meters from your chalet :)). The owner unlike many other owners is always present, welcoming, friendly and helpful to his guests. You are the guest for him, not just another customer. In short the most important things: cleanliness, service, food and atmosphere are excellent as it should be.

My husband and I stayed here for several days and loved every minute of it. The rooms are all separate little rustic cabanas facing the ocean with the most amazing baths that are open to the outdoors. The management and staff are all excellent and the food is delicious. We would move in if we could.🤔

Several of us went for lunch and it was a complete delight to be in an elegant setting right on the beach--'zen' style garden and generous patio facing the ocean. It was entrancing and magical... Food and service were excellent. Total pleasure to visit and will definitely come to stay for a while the next time--the cottages look lovely and wonderful to be so close to nature. Swallows were flying along the beach and I Love salamanders....
