This hotel is the old original Government hotel in Calabar and has recently been taken over Transcorp - who also run the Hilton in Abuja. Very central and close to the airport - 15 minutes. The reception areas have all been refurbished and look quite smart with a large restaurant - small bar and various shops. The pool area is... More

I lived and worked in Calabar in 1980/81 (building a new hospital for the Nigerian Navy), and remember the Metropolitan as the only "real" hotel in town. You could always get a cold beer and it was OK. Glad its survived. Apologies the page makes you pick a travel date - 1980 ain't an option

I stayed at the Metro Hotel in Calabar, Nigeria for 3 days. It was amazing. The hotel is beautiful with a classy and comfortable lobby. The staff was attentive and gracious. I came in late several times and felt safe and attended to. After many, dodgy stays in Nigeria, I was grateful for the hot, luxurious showers and warm and... More

On arrival, first impressions were good with friendly reception staff and a good-sized, well equipped room, though the safe in the wardrobe did not work and there was no internet. Sadly, things went rapidly downhill after this! Even though there was only 1 other person in the Chinese restaurant, it took more than an hour and a half for a... More

Stayed here for a couple of nights and was really dissapointed considering the amount of money I paid. Firstly, they dont take debit/credit cards and their exchange rates are so ridiculous that you have to go get cash for the number of nights you staying for. Now, consider i paid for 2 people and there is a limit on the... More

I have to say that the hotel is vastly improved from many, many years ago when I grew up in Calabar and the hotel had a very bad reputation. My cousin booked the rooms for me, I almost had a fit until we pulled up and I noted the great improvement outwardly and within! My biggest issue during my 11... More

The hotel has been rebranded as the Transcorp Metropolitan Hotel and Conference. The food is great but room service is slow, clean hotel, dedicated staff, close proximity to d stadium, govt, house, 15 mins drive to the airport, safety is assured

I stayed on business after two enforced stays at Channel View. They had a "special rate" for Nigeria's 50th anniversary celebrations; the flat rate was comparable to inferior places in the rest of the town, but once you added the "plus plus" on top, it hiked it up considerably. reverting to the normal rate (adding the "plus plus" of course)...
