The idea of road trips are romanticized before they even begin. The vision of the perfect vista passes by as the perfect song plays on the radio... windows open... barefoot passenger. But, as the miles add up, so do the half empty bottles and used napkins on the console, and the party slowly slides back to reality. So, what you're left with is the hope for those gem moments that break through and remind you why you thought this was a good idea. For us, our stay at My Friends Inn was one of those gems. For the those wanting the bare facts: the place is very clean, charming, safe, with very comfortable beds/pillows. It has all the amenities you would expect to find in a chain hotel: smart TVs, Keurig machine with complimentary coffee, fresh soft towels and linens, etc. And, I have to say we felt more comfortable in these rooms than we did the night before in the chain hotel in Sault Ste. Marie. But, you didn't come to this island because you wanted a corporate modeled vacation. And, this is what popped out so strongly during our stay. After parking, we strolled to the office door and saw a handwritten sign saying "Head to the left... we're checking out the trailer in the driveway'. So, to the left we went... and were soon greeted with "Hey! Looks like the sign works!" And, thus began a series of great conversations of welcome, trip aspirations, dining options, history, aerospace engineering, etc. The owners are so genuinely kind... we really felt at home... it was a pleasure to stay here, and it was hard to leave.
