The room was nicely furnished and looked very much like a small safari lodge. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the bathroom was small but perfectly kitted out. The room rate was heavily discounted as the refurbishment was still in progress so I think we got a great deal. The bar and restaurant will be great to visit once they are finished as they have amazing views over the crater. The room rate was deeply discounted (it will be $358 per night) because the entire hotel is being renovated and the restaurant and bar, which also have awesome views of the caldera, are not open. In the past, the Volcano House was not known for its food, but if the new concessionaire can turn that around, the hotel will be a great place to stay.
