The building fits in with the loc..."al architecture, as you would expect, but it is big so the view as you enter the site is of a rather plain block of grey stone and rows of windows. It isn't helped by the huge wooden fence next to the entrance to the foyer - the fence screens off the service area. However, don't be put off because as soon as you enter the foyer it is a different world. The foyer, passages and rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, quiet and elegant. Unlike so many hotels the corridors are WIDE and spacious, not gloomy tunnels. Our room was also spacious, with a large bathroom and the most comfortable bed we have had in a while.   "We enjoyed another lovely weekend at the Forest Side Hotel, Grasmere. This place is unique! Ann & Denis welcomed us - and there was free tea/coffee and cakes waiting for in one of the lounges. Yes, the water pressure isn't brilliant but the staff can't be blamed for that! There was plenty of very ho..."t water, and I had a room with a bath. Warm fires burned in all the fireplaces - boy, did we need them as the weather was pretty awful on Saturday. Breakfasts at Forest Side are huge and tasty - kept us going all day. We've found that an evening meal at The Travellers Rest just up the road was excellent value for money. Three courses cost £15.95 on the special menu. I was disappointed that Ann wasn't wearing her slippers - the gripe of an earlier reviewer! However, I was pleased that the door code had changed after one reviewer had advertised it.
