  "Ok hotel Good and bad points"
  "My husband and I and a friend stayed at Hotel D in Basel at the end of May. The room was trying to be very modern and updated. There were some good and some bad aspects. Good - it was very clean Lots of outlets to plug in phones and iPads that need charging The bathroom looks really cool Great..." location - short walk to city market area. Bad - no convenient parking. The girl at the front desk tried to give us directions and it was kind of confusing. She also said she doesn't drive so that would explain why she thought the parking was close by. While there were plenty of outlets, I blew a fuse the first time I plugged something in. Don't know if it was just a bad plug or what. To get the lights and tv to work you have to put the card key in a slot by the door. This is actually a really great idea (i hope this idea catches on in the US) if we had more than one key. So when my husband left the room to go to a meeting he took the only key we had and I was left in the dark until ... " More >

  "A stressless experience and just steps away to tram"
  "We were driving down from Germany for a Art|Basel weekend, which was a bit stressful once we got into the city. Driving around doesn't make any sense here and good thing the hotels give out "free" public transportation tickets. The underground parking lot entrance seemed like a block or so away, but..." we were actually able to find a spot near the hotel's elevator entrance. One night of parking - 25 CHF. Check-in went smoothly and we got an upgrade. Nice! 4th floor overlooking the tram stations. Not a bad view if you don't mind people watching. And obviously, rumblings from the trams are inevitable. Light sleepers be aware though I actually slept just fine in our big comfy and firm bed. If you need some free info/guides/maps, there are brochures at the reception area as wells as the info center outside in a tent at the tram stations. Basel is expensive. Period. Nearby alternatives to hotel breakfast if so inclined, go across the street to Tchibo's cafe, Starbucks at the other end or... " More >
