The evening meals were exceptional on the three evenings that I dined in the restaurant. The cooked breakfast was relatively simple in comparison to the evening meals but supplemented with a wide variety of cereals, fresh fruit and yogurt etc. was more than adequate. From a fishing perspective, there is a makeshift rod rack on site for overnight stowage of salmon rods in order to alleviate the problem of breaking rods down every evening. With places in Pitlochry booking up really early or engaging in a little bit of price gouging, Dunkeld could be seen as an ideal alternative place to stay only 20 mins from the start. The staff at the Royal were very friendly and helpful offering..." an early buffet breakfast and safe storage for bikes if required. I had some sympathy for the owners who I think suffer a little by having loads of one night weekend bookings as I suspect most cyclists will generally only stay one night. However, they get the economic context which is the overall benefits from having 5500 cyclists and "support crew" in the area. As for the facilities, our family triple was good and spacious although, being an older building, soundproofing wasn't great and we had what seemed to be the only non cyclist in the place next door so a bit of prolonged noise around 2am.
