We were there three days, which seems to be the norm among other reviewers. The area is too remote for a day trip from the bigger cities. Miguel does a great ..."job on the hike and horse back riding tour. Horses are geared for neophyte riders like us so don't expect galloping steeds. We saw lots of wild life that you just don't see outside of a zoo in the US. The roads are not as bad as some reported but they are two lane and you do need to heed safety precautions more than at home. I would not drive at night. We also did the hot springs and zip lines which are not on the property. We would go back too see water fall near Fortuna and the hanging bridges near the lodge. " More >

  "We booked this place as a day trip with lunch. Make sure that you check since we were told by The Springs resort that if you book a day trip u may return the next day for a free day. So our tour included transportation and lunch. The drive from La Fortuna is long so the price of $70-75/pp for the da..."y tour seemed reasonable. I think the taxi round trip would be around $40. Anyway, the 1st thing we did upon arrival is take the shuttle that runs every 30 min down to the river. That is where they have a animal tour and the rock wall and the horses. You can soak in the hot springs down there too and hike along the river and hike along the horse trail. The hot springs there were very private, we were there all alone :). So we saw lots of cool birds in the wild here: kingfisher, motmot, kites, etc. Really nice!! BEWARE, the shuttle stops running at 3:30 pm or at 4 IF someone booked the animal tour at 4 pm. So we nearly got stranded down there and missed the shuttle. And trust me, u do not wan... " More >

  "Fantastic Thermal Spa and Resort"
  "Tabacon was very accommodating as they allowed us to check in early prior to departing on an all day tour and returning in the evening. Typical check in time is 4pm, but they went ahead and checked us in at 8am. Their staff was also very helpful in fixing a few things that went wrong with our room. ..."When we first got to the room, the front door came off of a hinge. Repairmen were there in 5 minutes and fixed the door. The staff also brought chocolates by as a way of saying “Sorry for the inconvenience.” Another time our smoke detector decided to go on the fritz. We called the front desk, and again 5 minutes later repairmen were there to fix the issue. The Tabacon staff did a very good job ensuring our satisfaction. The bathroom is large with a step up tub. Our room also had a sliding glass door with a great view of Arenal Volcano. The A/C controls are a bit weird and takes some tinkering to get it set to the right temperature.
