It was true to life, an old place with a laid..." back feeling to it. There was an older woman their named Barbara (everybody calls her MOM) that was helping out (reminded me of my Gramma). She seemed to be everybodies favorite! WE WERE TREATED LIKE THEY REALLY ENJOYED HAVING US. This experience brought us back in time when you all you had to do on vacation was sit back and enjoy what you have and don't JUDGE, BE NEGATIVE AND JUST LOOK FOR BAD THINGS TO SEE BECAUSE THERE IS NO PERFECT PLACE EXCEPT HEAVEN AND THIS WAS THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN I HAD EVER BEEN!   "We just spent 2 nights at Priest Gulch driving down from Telluride towards Durango. We had seen the reviews but had driven this road several times and were always struck by how beautiful the campground is. It really is. Having said that, their welcome was not the friendliest and the manicured na..."ture of the campground is offset by, frankly, too many 'NO' signs. So, it just didn't have a real friendly feel [and we're over 60]. We chose to dry camp the next night just west of there at West Dolores campground; very friendly; 1/2 the cost and even more quiet. So, if you're looking for a well established more structured and patrolled [but gorgeous] setting, Priest Gulch is for you. If you want a more friendly camping experience go to West Dolores campground up the west fork of the Dolores River. " More >

  "We stayed in the Major Ross as part of our honeymoon and loved nearly every minute of our stay. Our cabin was great, with a good location to the saloon and the hot springs, which was very helpful during snowy days. We peeked into some of the other empty cabins and they are all awesome in their own w..."ay. Each one has it's own personality, so you can't really go wrong with any of them. The food is out of the world. Every meal was delicious without exception. When we got home from our trip, the resort was featured in Bon Appitit magazine as a food destination. We had no idea it was going to be that good. They are also very open to suggestions and to tailoring food to people's tastes. We had a few vegetarians or other restrictions and the chefs happily adjusted meals or plates accordingly. The wine was lovely, and while we didnt tap into the reserve list, we were impressed at how small the mark ups were on the items.
