The hotel is more like a grand manor house than a typical castle. Not only was our room first class, so was the sumptuous breakfast. Cozy, elegant breakfast room with beautifully set tables, real china and courteous service.Heidelberg is about 40 km, a nice drive along the river Neckar. Bad Wimpfen nearby, is a delightful, walled medieval city with half-timbered houses, an ancient church and courtyards. Much like Rothenburg ob der Tauber but less touristy.   "I stayed there this week. I had the car, and I like to stay 10km or so away from where I am working - so I get a chance to see more places than just the town/city where I am travelling to. The hotel staff were very friendly, spoke English well, and organised a late check-in. (I arrived at midnigh..."t). The rooms were very nicely appointed, although the Schloss conversion has meant that some rooms are down very narrow hallways, or up stairways with low ceiling heights. However, once in the room, the rooms are nice. Breakfast was generous, but I was introduced for the first time to concrete eggs. Scrambled eggs left in a permanently hot steamer means that by the time you get to breakfast, they have been cooking for more than an hour. You need an industrial chainsaw to eat them. Other than that, the breakfast room was beautiful, and the general ambience of the hotel very calm and friendly. I will happily stay there again and recommend it. " More >
