It was plenty spacious for both of us and our gear and was a cozy, comfortable place to spend the night. Plus not having to set up / take down a tent meant more time for exploring the can..."yon. As long as you go into thinking of it as a camping experience as opposed to a hotel experience you'll enjoy it. The only concern I had with the hogan itself was that there was a deadbolt on the door that could be locked from the outside; i.e. you could theoretically find yourself locked in your hogan. Don't know who would do that, but it's a creepy thought. They had some firewood available for sale which was handy because we had been unable to find any in Chinle and had been counting on a fire to make dinner. • Holiday Inn Canyon de Chelly
  "Fine for where it is, but strange unwelcoming vibe."
  "The hotel itself is very nice and well maintained. It is located right outside the entrance to Canyon de Chelly, so close, in fact, that you can see the sign for the visitor center. This puts it outside of the town itself, which is a good thing. The only other "real" hotel in town is the Best We..."stern near the highway and it looks like a good choice, also. The major difference is that the Holiday Inn is a hotel and the BW is a motel with outside entrances to the rooms. I'm not sure if there is a security problem in this area or not. We never felt unsafe and the few local people we encountered were friendly. The Holiday Inn's buildings have indoor corridors and you need your keycard to unlock the door to the corridor. We also saw a security guard in the parking lot, even during the day, so we felt fairly safe here. The grounds are attractive and nicely landscaped.
