This was my third visit to Luna Maya in 2 years and was always a favorite. Unfortunately the food is no longer the best. There were only 2 other couples in the entire restaurant. The original chef responsible for the fabulous cuisine has left. Chef Hugo is doing an admiral job but just not the same dining experience. The appitizers... More

My friends and I were walking down 5th avenue looking for a particular restuarant and asked directions from a man outside of Luna Maya. He gave us the directions and then asked us if another night we would consider trying his restaurant. yes that was Luna Maya. well we did; and let me tell you it was by far the... More

The restaurant is situated on the second floor , and is nicely decorated and has an intimate feel. The service is very efficient and unobtrusive. The food is good and well presented, we felt that it was quite expensive compared with similar restaurants, but it's still worth a visit

I wanted to have a chance to have some authentic mexican cuisine while we visited Playa del Carmen. This place was really nice. The general manager was there when we visited, and he was very personable and made our visit special. I forgot now the names of all of the dishes that we had, so I will describe them; We... More

Luna Maya still has the entire fine dining experience nailed. From the awesome ambiance of the second floor setting overlooking 5th to the highly-attentive, but thoroughly unobtrusive, service and the incredible cuisine. For appetizers, we revisited the Duck Carnitas sampled in a previous visit last year (they rock!)and experimented with the Three Bites which turned out to be 3 good-sized... More

This restaurant was recommended by another web search and some locals who drove us around at Mayakoba. As for service; impeccable. So gracious and patient, especially when helping us maneuver through Mayan terms that were obviously foreign and a few food issues (allergies to bananas and drug interactions with spicy food). The food was wonderfully different and flavorful. I had... More

A relatively new restaurant in Playa, this restaurant is quite upscale and is a nice change from the bustling and loud restaurants on 5th Avenue. The menu is mostly revisited Yucatan classics: cochinita pibil... We were four, so we tried different entrées and mains. Everything was very good and very well presented. The breads were original and some of the... More

We found Luna Maya when looking in advance of our trip to Playa for places we could go for our anniversary night dinner. The food was really interesting and unique - pork served in a jar with a piece of smoking charcoal in it, duck carnitas, delicious flan. The menu was a welcome departure from the Italian and Mexican food... More

A modern twist on Mexican cuisine and well worth an excursion to north end of Av 5. Would fully endorse the other positive recommendations for this venue.

We’ve been travelling to Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujeres for several years and enjoy trying out new restaurants, especially those that tend toward being creative with the usual cuisine found in these parts of the Yucatan Peninsula. Two guests who had spent the week with us in Playa del Carmen wanted to treat us to a special dinner before... More
