Description: Steeped in tradition, The Fairmont Empress has been serving Victoria's grandest tradition of Afternoon Tea for over a century. The majestic lobby of this landmark hotel has played host to England's most beloved ritual - the taking of Afternoon Tea to famed celebrities, dignitaries and royalty alike. Award-winning Pastry Chef D'Oyen Christie works his magic, ensuring an authentic and memorable experience - from your very first sip of our secret Tea at The Empress blend tea, right through to his freshly baked raisin scones served with heavy cream and strawberry preserves. Served in the relaxing atmosphere of the elegantly restored Tea Lobby, overlooking Victoria's sparkling Inner Harbour, Afternoon Tea is an absolute 'must do' for all who visit Victoria. Please note any dietary concerns or restrictions in your reservation.

I write this review with great sadness, not just b/c of the horrible experience I had with my mother while visiting the Fairmont's High Tea service but also because I feel that the server was having what could only be described as a HORRIBLE day...but I have to write this review b/c this was a once in a lifetime opportunity... The tea is a special time. So don`t go with those who would rather have a beer. Dress up and enjoy the eloquant past time. Conjour up the days of sitting and waiting for a letter, (No Phones allowed). Sit back and be pampered. Eat slowly and enjoy the flavours of well preapared afternoon delicate cakes, sandwiches and the ever... More

High Tea at the Empress Hotel . . . sounds wonderful, doesn't it? And for those that have never had High Tea, it will be a treat. But $72 per tourist (including tip); no complimentary champagne; sandwiches and desserts prepared well in advance and chilled; service not offering additional sandwiches. There is nothing special here - it is only a... More

Had afternoon tea at the Empress after a morning at Butchard Gardens. We had a window seat overlooking the harbor and the ambiance was perfect. The tea and service were fantastic. The food was tasty and much better (and more of it) than I expected from some of the reviews. It was my first time going to "fancy" tea, so... More

The Empress Room is a beautiful, comfortable place to have afternoon tea. The tea service (tea, food, and staff) is wonderful. I really enjoyed the scone (but I would prefer it with clotted cream, not the empress cream they include) and the savory and sweet items were great - including things like a raspberry macaron, a really lovely shortbread cookie,... In the Victoria guide book (2013-2014) the Afternoon Tea is advertised as $48.95 per person, but in reality...on May 1st it goes up to $59.95 for the "Tourist Season", as if we weren't being gouged enough. Some of the other Teas advertised in the books were half the price and according to the pictures had about 50% more food too.... More

We have experienced this highly publicized "traditional tea" over many years. We reserved an early opening tea at noon. Got a nice window table overlooking the harbour and enjoyed the ambience of the old-time tea room in this old-time faux British hotel. We knew it was expensive and were not disappointed to pay $55 a person for "tea". The presentation... More

Expensive tea experience but certainly worth every penny. Tea was served which does take you back in time and all the bakery goods were excellent. Everyone in the party enjoyed it immensely. I am ready to go back to this place.
