We have been here a few times in the past but thought we'd give our visiting chef friend from Vancouver and his wife a real treat. We and they were not disappointed and it actually exceeded our already high expectations. Boar sausage fried in tempura, gnocchi with fiddleheads, scallops seared to perfection and pork belly with beans to die for... More

Have been here before. The hostess as always offered to take our coats and seated us immediately. Our server was very friendly and was eager to answer all of our questions. He seemed to be having a great time doing his job, which put us as customers at ease. We mentioned that we don't care for a lot of Ontario... More

Frequent Play often. Love the food and service, but sure wish they would provide larger glasses of wine. Currently pay a lot for such small servings of wine. I know it's a restaurant that specializes in small servings, but does that extend to its wine too?

This is a modern setting for a great meal. The menu has a wide range of tastes that are ideal for sharing and are just the right size to leave room for the next temptation. Had the beet salad, scallops ,lentil fritters, and mussels with a heavenly sauce. Will go again!

We came for the lunch special and loved it so much we came back the next day for lunch as well. The staff were very nice and accomodating - my sugars crashed and I needed juice. They ran to get it and gave me some space for them to level out before taking my order. Very attentive the whole time.... More

I visited Executive Chef Stephen Beckta's restaurant with high expectation. After all, this restaurant is ranked no. 4 in tripadvisor. However, "Play" is a restaurant that Chef Gordon Ramsay might refer to as being "stuck in the 1980's" pretentiousness. This includes the David Bowie-like "Let's Dance" colour scheme and the somewhat ghastly decour with sheets dangling from the ceilings. I... More

First of all, tip of the Hat to Steve Beckta for another outstanding restaurant. While the décor is really minimalist, rest assured the food and beverage is not. We had the pleasure of being served by Stephen H. He is superbly trained in both wine pairings and food combinations. We started with the mixed Charcuterie plate and 8 cheeses split... More

Walking in the Byward Market, we had intended to make our way to another Ottawa favourite, Domus. But alerted by a quick scan of TripAdvisor, when we passed Play, located at the corner of Sussex and York, we opted to give it a try. The place was busy - this was about 7:30 on a Thursday evening, but the welcome... More

We had dinner there in June 2012. We loved their small plates, wines and cheese plate for dessert. The service was great but the decor a bit modern for our taste.. The restaurant gets very busy after 7PM. Overall - great experience.

My husband took me here for our 24th wedding anniversary. He did good. The service was great, the food unique, and I'm always up for something new. The prices were fair, the menu well balanced, something for everyone. It is a sharing menu, which is great because you always want what the other person ordered. Would I specifically make a... More
