Visited here quite a while ago, but can't wait to go back and will at the next opportunity. Great atmosphere, with wonderful Indian decor to look at and make you feel relaxed and welcome. Staff were able to get us a table despite people telling us you need to book in advance, and were very attentive and wonderful. The food... More

The Ancient Raj used to be somewhere I dined quite regularily yet travel commitments prevented me from doing so for a very long time. I've had some excellent meals here and it was great to see after so long that the positives haven't changed. First and foremost, one should take note of the ambience, when it comes to the decore and... More

We found this restaurant, as it was close to our hotel, and reviews seemed excellent. I found this place very friendly, and was a lovely restaurant. The food was tasty, however have tasted better. The staff were attentive but by the time the restaurant had filled up it took a while to get served. Will keep trying for a better... More

We love Indian cooking and needed a change while touring the UK. This was money well spend and we were not disappointed. We all agreed to do it again. Try it.

By far our favourite Indian restaurant, The Ancient Raj combines excellent service with good food. We have eaten here many times with groups or just the two of us. We have never been disappointed (except when we have left it too late to book, that is). The chicken biryani is a particular favourite.

Everything was right. Food was hot spicy and bursting with flavour but nevertheless kind to the digestion and not at all greasy. Service and ambiance was excellent too...what more can you ask for. For reference, I had the Chicken Jalfrezi, preceded by Sheek kebab, with Bridal and Bhindi bhajees and keema nan and chapati.....ooh, and a couple of Kingfishers....well, it... More

Bluuugh Madras was gross, watery. Although the spice was there it wasn't zingy enough and the sauce had a very peculiar flavour and funny smell. Not tried other dishes. Where can I get good madras from to takeaway?

Whilst visiting Canterbury, we fancied an Indian curry. We googled the area and decided to give the ancient raj a try. We were not disappointed. Service was excellent and the food even better. A little wait but it was cooked fresh so no complaints there. If your in Canterbury and fancy a curry give it a try, I'm sure you... More
