Description: Located in the heart of Kensington opposite Hyde Park, the grand building that houses Zaika of Kensington dates back to 1884/5 having been built for the London and County Bank to the designs of local architect Alfred Williams. The Building is late-Gothic style and has retained many original architectural features including the carved, high ceilings and double-height windows. Opened in 1999, Zaika of Kensington is one of the few Indian restaurants to hold two prestigious AA rosettes. The name Zaika translates quite literally as sophisticated flavours and this is the ethos behind the innovative menu. With an emphasis on refined, creative and contemporary Indian cuisine, the menu incorporates traditional classic favourites with previously unseen menus. The Tamarind Collection welcomed Zaika of Kensington to its group in November 2012 as it became the fourth name in the portfolio, joining Tamarind of Mayfair, Imli Street in Soho and the youngest sister restaurant, Tamarind of London in Orange County, California. Following the acquisition, Zaika of Kensington continues to incorporate traditional, classic dishes offering refined, creative and contemporary Indian cuisine. Head chef Navin Prasad has join Tamarind Collection since the acquisition of Zaika, accepted as one of the country's leading new wave of Indian chefs, Navin's dishes have been praised as an education for the palate, focused on delivering the very best dining experience. Zaika of Kensington's kitchen runs under the team of Navin Prasad and Director Cuisine & Executive Chef of Tamarind Collection, Alfred Prasad. Alfred has gained industry and public recognition for his cuisine, at 29, Alfred was the youngest Indian chef to receive a Michelin star, an honour, which put him firmly on the world's culinary map.
