Good pub food in atmospheric surroundings and a staggering array of tasty beers. One of my favourite Belfast pubs.
Located in a clutch of some of Belfast's best bars, this offers something different. Specials on the menu regards food and beers and you will usually find some musicians giving an impromptu performance.
We visited on a Saturday night and they had live music on by musicians in the corner!!. This pub is what these 'irish theme pubs' elsewhere in the world try to re-create!. Good friendly bar staff and an excellent pint of guinness!. Reasonably priced and a good craic!
The food here is great, and they have various specials, mostly fish-based. They have live music on weekend nights such as the Panama Jazz Band on a Friday night. Managed to get the last available table on Friday 16th for a pre-Christmas lunch with friends. It was a bitterly cold day, and when I asked for a 'hot one' it was no bother to the very helpful staff. Lunch was excellent, good decent helpings of delicious food, all served promptly and with a smile. Within minutes of our arrival... More

This is a very relaxing place to escape from the hectic buzz just down the street. I had their Christmas roast turkey and ham dinner, it tasted fresh and home made. The potato and leek soup was... Great gathering place for a multitude of talented local musicians very strong on traditional music uising a full range of instruments. Great pub food and superbe atmosphere
Great atmosphere especially on live music nights, a good choice of beers and staff who know how to pull a good pint.
We had read about The John Hewitt on Trip Advisor before our trip and it was very close to our Hotel so we made a visit on a Wednesday evening. Unfortunately they don't do evening food so we went back after dining elsewhere, at about 9.30 and the place was buzzing. The Musicians were there in force and we saw... More
We went to the John Hewitt for a few drinks before heading out into town on a weekend away in Belfast. We didn't eat here nor would we want to as on Saturday night it was busy with a small band playing live music. There is a really good selection of local Ulster real-ale from Hilden on draught plus a... More
