Description: Restaurant Le Gaigne in Paris' fascinating Marais quarter aims to step lightly upon the earth. With a commitment to using local, fresh, organic or alternatively produced ingredients where possible, Le Gaigne wears its green credentials very gracefully indeed. Chef Mikael Gaignon is a young wonder, having worked in two Pierre Gagnaire restaurants as well as Le Pre Catalan and Le Table du Baltimore before opening this, his first restaurant as chef and patron too. The dining room has an air of elegant simplicity in tones of aubergine and pink with fresh flowers and soothing artwork. The dishes on Le Gaignes French menu change frequently, of course, but may include organic egg en cocotte with cream of spinach, carrots and celery, pan-fried seabass with lentils ravigote, and minted chocolate in moelleux. Gaignons energetic creativity is apparent in every dish. All wines are French and the service is by charming Aurelie.

Le Gaigne was recommended to me by someone I trust and TripAdvisor reviews seemed to well match that recommendation. I made reservation in advance and was looking forward to dining there. My wife and I each had an appetizer and a main course. All 4 dishes were average; 2 were over-salted and my fish (sea bream) was undercooked. I love... More

On the basis of reviews from tripadvisor, we decided to give this a try. Not disappointed! The welcome was lovely, the recommended wines universally excellent, and each course was beautifully presented and well cooked. A standout was the sea bream with spring vegetables and a vegetable broth. Food of a very high standard, in a very civilised setting.

We had the 5 course tasting menu with wine that change everywhere month. The pig trotters was a little heavy, but tasty, and the following languster, fish, guinea hen and dessert were perfect. Both composition and preparation was lovely, and the different wines were well chosen for the dishes. The wife of the operation served the tables, and was attentive... More

Great value at lunchtime. We also had the gambas (prawns) with a barley risotto. Beautiful quality prawns but found the sauce too runny on the risotto, so that, in the end, it was a bit like eating rice pudding. Nonetheless, very tasty. My husband had a dessert based on apple, topped with an apple gelee, which was perhaps too delicate... More

First night in Paris and we had reservations in this small restaurant near the Pompidou Centre. Decided on the tasting menu which was paired with excellent wine choices! Every dish was a standout (from the duck, vegetables, seabass, veal, cheese and sorbet) and we will definitely be back as the menu changes each month!

We were in this small and very cosy restaurant with a friend who has been living in Paris for many decades. We enjoyed it. It is very small indeed (only 7 tables), so reservations are a must. It is quite obvious that the couple running it have a passion for food: a great informal atmosphere, very interesting combinations without losing... More

Wonderful, quiet and efficient service, this is the third time we have been there on different trips to Paris. Very small so you must book and you must recognise that it is a husband and wife operation so monthly changing specialist menu with superb food and good wine list.

I wish that people who write restaurants reviews would better understand the small family business. Le gagne is run by the wife who is in the front and the husband who is in the kitchen. This is the reason why you can get a great dinner for 45 euros . Also if you go to a restaurant that only has... More

Forgive me for saying this, but I didn't love it. And I thought it would. First, the good. Great location and neat space. Tiny, but really cozy. The wine was excellent. We did the five course tasting paired with wine. Service was also very friendly. Now onto the meal itself: The first course was a pate sweetbread. It was good,... More
