Description: New highlight. Two pros in the kitchen and serving food earn storms of enthusiastic applause. Kurt Oehler came from 'Amabile', Doreen Lehwald used to be the cook at 'Bagutta'. Crowd-pullers for the curious city centre clientele. Simple furniture, subtle grey walls and many little islands of lights create an atmosphere of cosiness. Whether young or old, everyone feels at home here. Friendly and attentive service, including the wine. A popular place to dine with groups of friends. Recommendation: make a reservation!

We had a great dinner at Basilicum this saturday evening. We choose the 3 course surprise menu (we never eat a lot, and after dinner we went tango dancing). It was very good. This was a great way to start our mini-honeymoon, and a good alternative for the expensive star restaurant in our hotel (Wasserturm).

My wife and I were in Koln for the evening and visited Basilicum off the back of some good reviews on this site but in the end we both felt a little disappointed with the experience. Firstly the restaurant. It's a little outside the main tourist area although just a short taxi journey or tram ride away. The restaurant is... More

From the first step into this intimate dining experience, you are preparing yourself for a foodie experience. Unpretentious is the key watchword. It's pared down French with a creative German twist that focuses on fresh, in season foods and dishes. I had arranged for a company dinner at the restaurant and wanted to sample the food beforehand. I worked with... More

I had the 'surprise' menu and let the waitress pick the wine. The meal was very good and the wine brilliant, especially the white (Blauer Sylvaner). The restaurant is bright with a relaxed feel and friendly staff making for comfortable dining. I strongly recommend a visit.

We liked our dinner at Basilicum. Food is good quality but not so creative in my eyes, except an excellent ice crem with curry we had for desert. Prices are in the range of 50€ per person for full meal. Service was slow, but this seems to be an standard on restaurants in Germany. The surprise menu looks promising but... More

I have been to Basilicum twice in the past couple of months and both times was completely satisfied. The food was different, excellent, and interesting. I would like to try the surprise menu because I can't imagine anything coming out of the kitchen not on target. The staff is friendly and atmosphere cozy and attractive. It will be my go... More

We ate in Basilicum based on good reviews and enjoyed the experience. The waitress was friendly and professional, and the surroundings were nice. Four of us took the surprise menu: the starters were delicious and very nicely presented. The main courses were hit and miss: two of us had a really tasty fish dish with wonderful flavours, our friends got... More

We went to Basilicum for my partner's birthday dinner with friends. I couldn't recommend it more. Whilst I'm a big fan of traditional German food, we wanted to find somewhere a little more 'special' for the occasion and this place came out well in other people's reviews so I booked. We weren't disappointed. The food was delicious, the friendly waiter... More

We have visited Basilicum twice - in July and December 2010. We booked in advance both times. In July (a very warm evening) we sat on a lovely terrace at the back of the restaurant, in December we were sat inside in the warm! Both times, we went for the 4 course surprise menu, which was innovative, beautiful and delicious.... More
