One of the century old restaurants of Madrid : it doesn´t only look great, the food - and especially the cocido - is equally worthwile. It can even be taken at night (Thursday-friday). The place is small, so a previous reservation is useful.

fun tradicional food at good prices. historically known for the full "cocido" menu, larger than life food offer. fun and authentic. Good after a tour on the rastro.

Went to this lovely authentic Spanish restaurant after reading reviews. Decor is wonderful, old and celebrates the history of the restaurant from 1890. Tables are large and set for 2. This gives a clue to portion sizes !! We ordered the Special and were not disappointed. Soup was lovely but you are not expected to eat it all as the... More

Really poor service balanced with high quality food. If you are not familiar with food original from Madrid, this would bé a good option

My partner and I read the review on t.a. and decided to give it a try. We had the special pre fix for two (39 euro) which, as others have written, was enough to feed one for days. It began with a huge tureen of chicken soup. Delicious. Then a large plate of chick peas served with pork belly fat.... More

Malacatin was opened in 1895 and is a typical tavern that is decorated with bullfighting posters and is ringed with beautiful ceramic tile. This restaurant is famous for its cocido at lunch. A reservation for lunch is necessary because it gets very crowded and every table gets occupied. There are two servings for lunch, the first one starting at 2:00... More

We tried this restaurant on the basis of its good ranking on TA. It is a small cosy place, and you either order from the a-la-carte menu or choose the "cocida madrileno" (classic Madrid stew) set menu which you have to ask for. We went for the latter, and was served olives, bread and a noodle soup to start, followed... More

The atmosphere is bursting with locals and tourists. It's a small place so you become a part of the action without trying: lots of fun. The food, at least the plates that wet my appetite, were delicious and the wine was excellent. Even though we had not eaten for hours, we could not finish even half of what was on... More

Traditional, i.e. rather basic Madrilenian cooking in a cosy athmosphere - and in Gargantuan proportions. If you do not expect a "fine dining" experience, you will not be disappointed, as the prices are quite reasonable.

you come here for the experience not so much the taste factor. while the food was tasty, it was basically loads of various meats roasted rather plainly and presented platter by platter. so...the experience was fun, but i can't honestly say we loved the food.
