We found this while walking around off the main streets. The owners, a young couple, greeted us as we entered. The decor was adorable and very professionally done. Walking around Lucca in search of a nice dinner spot that serves fresh fish. Happily we found Canuleia, off the main touristy streets. A happy friendly staff greeted us into the bright attractive restaurant. The design a perfect combination of the old stone structure and modern restaurants. I had roasted piglet and my wife had the rabbit. The pig served on top of mashed potatoes was very forgettable. It wasn't seasoned, even with the skimpy mustard and fleur de sel smudge. The skin was gelatinous and not crispy. The rabbit was tasty, though, thus the average overall rating.

Loved the food, ate in garden for lunch. Service was attentive & personal. More French style that Italian, but well percieved and executed. Flavours are well balanced, and portion sizes not overwhelming. Loved the secluded back garden area, felt like we were in someones home! Would return.

Great food- the rabbit was excellent. The pesto tagliatelle with burata very good. Decent wine list. Waitress delivered food and never saw her again for f/u. Had to request check twice. Slow, slow slow even by Italian standards.
