Great place with a unique atmosphere! I have tasted the best pizza ever and my wife had home made pasta (pici - thick, spaghetti like pasta), mouth-watering. Can't speak for everything on the menu, but the fact that we have seen mainly Italians dining there speaks for itself. Highly recommended! Not to mention the outstanding service!! Cheers to the owner... More

Giuseppe Verdi did not visit this restaurant or write " Il Trovatore" anywhere near here, but he and Puccini are definitely the main features of the décor. On the walls and on TV opera is the theme unless there is something better like a big football match. Fortunately the sound is muted.I was invited here by local Italian friends. I found... More

Welcomed by the owner; likes to listen to himself. Perhaps the food inside the city-walls has not been tried by those who wrote the very positive reviews here, or perhaps those who love to eat something as ridiculous and outdated as half a cow (T-Bone) wrote the positive reviews? I thought it was all rather average in quality. Nothing special.... More

We ate there in low season and were treated as old friends by the staff. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and our son devoured his pizza. Would definitely return.

We ate here for dinner, also because in very low season (we were in San Gimignano for three weekdays in February, so season couldn'b lower than this) 99% of the restaurants are closed for dinner in this small town. We went to the Trovatore, and were immediately welcomed like long-time customers, also if this was or first time. The staff... More

Great food especially the T-Bone steak, their speciality. I suggest also the appetizers (antipasti) and pizza. If there're few people, ask for Nicola, the owner and opera'slover. He gives you the best suggestions asking about what you like or what you intend to eat. If he's busy...don't worry: the waiters are very well trained and can help you as good as... More

We ate their on New Years Eve. It was a great experience. The waiter explained us the menu in detail and the T-bone steak, the speciality, was done to perfection. The waiting period for your food is very short and the food arrives warm at your table. The restaurant is walking distance from anywhere in town. Definitely worth a visit.

Eating at restaurants every night on vacation can lull one into a stupor of sameness, but Il Trovatore will wake you up. From the staff to the opera playing, quietly, on the flat screen, to the layout of the place, this isn't your average "pizzeria". We were introduced to "truffle oil" - really olive oil with a percentage of truffle... More

Extraordinary food and excellent service! We were there two of three nights on our weekendtrip. Try the meat or the pizza or everything!

We happened along Il Trovatore when we stopped to ask for help in finding a place to stay. Nicoli, the owner, not only found us a place, but drove us there. When we went back for dinner, we didn't realize what a great experience we were in for. We got the T-bone steak, which Nicoli had us pick out, from... More
