It is a place were the locals go. And it is definitely a place I would recommand! The meat is tasty and you can just keep eating even if you're not hungry anymore ! And that without spending a fortune !

It was very nice experience. My husband and I, we were satisfied with rapid and quality of service and cuisine. We ordered parrot fish, and the waiter brought it and offered to divide between because the price is for kilo and it was rather big fish for 1 person. It was very tasty cooked with different spices. As starters my... More

One of the best restaurants we visited while in Madeira. We visited twice and each time the food was supremely tasty. There is a tank in the restaurant that keeps live crab and lobster and they keep their fresh catch refrigerated near the door so you can see what you're going to eat. The first time we went we both... More

Worth going, but only if you're very hungry! Portions are far too big, neither of us could finish either of our two courses.Mixed fish mains, six different types of fish but enough veg for two people. Fish stew was ridiculously large, a huge tureen that could easily feed four. Smaller portions could mean smaller prices and less waste

This is probably the best fish restaurant along the 'hotel strip'. Absolutely wonderful fresh fish and terrific service. The staff are always very welcoming and eager to help and recommend dishes and wines. Not the cheapest restaurant you will find, but if you want quality and service it's always worth paying that little bit more.

Hadn't been to Lareira since they added a second floor, a more casual setting for meat dishes. The 6 of us opted to sit downstairs on Easter Sunday and could order from the menu above. We had the piri piri chicken, a young chicken roasted and cut into tiny bits with bones and slathered with piri piri sauce. It was... More

When you stay at the Cliff Bay the restaurant is well situated just over the road and then you don't need to climb up the hill past it! The fish tank with lobster and crab looking at you is fascinating, but we've never actually chosen our fish that way. They have a large selection of fresh fish, but be warned... More

Dined here on recommendation. Outsdie decor is off-putting. Hostess not very welcoming. Tables too close together, so felt uncomfortable all through the meal, as could both hear and be overheard. However, the food was excellent. Fish is freshly caught and the chef took the time to discuss our choices. Waiting time longer than usual.

We go to Lareira every time we go to Funchal, for its reliably great fish and a warm welcome from Susanna. We went twice in February and once again weren't disappointed - other than no dorada fish. (Aparently there hadn't been any around for the couple of weeks prior to our visit.) Never mind, the oysters, parrot fish, grouper and... More
