"Gretl the Grumpy" served us. No eye contract and no effort to help us distinguish "egg with egg" from "egg with onion" from "egg with bacon". No effort to communicate at all. Quite embarrassing if you have no smattering of German. Anyway....the little sandwiches are good. The only one to avoid is the herring if you dont like herring. They... More

It is worth to find the branches of this special sandwich maker in Vienna. Very famous is those in the first district close to the Graben. A big sign on the house leading into a small street will guide you. Try them and sit down (if there is a place) enjoy the atmosphere and have a small glass (Pfiff) of... More

It was a new experience to look at a large line-up of open-faced sandwiches and then point, pay and eat them standing up. I think we had 7 or 8 different types between them, and each one was as good as the other. It was a great place to stop to refuel while shopping, and it was really reasonable too.

Very close to the cathedral. I wouldn't recommend it to you if you are very hungry. They are very small and tasty sandwiches over 1 euro each. The kind of "tapa" or finger food they will serve free in Spain with a drink. This place is good for a snack and a drink. The service is terrible by the way,... More

What a pleasant surprise! This place was billed as a buffet in its street signage, and we don’t generally do buffets. But when we peaked in we found something completely different – a tidy glassed-in counter with an array of small open-faced sandwiches. There were 15 or 20 different selections of semi-purees – red pepper, salmon, cucumber, egg -- on... More

Take a "Pfiff" beer (ca. 0,2 l) an a few breads. Like it. A institution right in the heart of the city. Not cheap (what is?)

If you want open-topped egg sandwiches, fair enough, this is the place to get them. It's a bit samey once you've had a plateful. I don't think I'd search it out again, it's more of a novelty than anything else. Mind you, a good egg sandwich is sometimes just the ticket!

Legendary small egg sandwiches for any taste in Vienna, opened in 1902.Situated in the center of Vienna, close to Stephan's Dome. A sandwich costs about 1 euro, a little overpriced but the sandwiches is good! 4-5 sandwiches would make a full lunch and 3 for a light lunch, and don't forget to try their little pfiff of beer!

This snack shop specializes in bread spread. Very tasty. Great variety. But on the other hand, they just figured out a way how to make you pay EUR 5,50 for one single slice of bread with different kinds of spread on it. Come here if you like variety in flavour and feel kinda snacky - but don't confuse it with... More

Sorry, I just don't see why this is so special? The place was packed, but for very small and pricey squares of open faced sandwiches, and expensive beer. I suggest elsewhere, especially if you want a place to sit with service and a place to sit. Also, if you do go, don't get the smallest beer, you'll laugh when you... More
