A thoroughly enjoyable evening all round, here's why: Firstly, the food was phenomenal. I had the beef and chicken duet, the meat was beautiful, with crispy fries, grilled mushroom and a beef tomato with a peppercorn sauce. Presentation was excellent. The beef was of very high quality and all of the steaks from here match that standard. That was followed... More

When we called, some items were not available (although the board outside indicated they were which is why we went in); the wine we wanted had been "sold out". Tip: make sure they have what you want before settling in!

Excellent restaurant, just behind the main road down to the lake. We have been there on a number of occasions over the last few years, & the food is always top notch. There is a wide range of menu & the prices are reasonable. They do special 2 & 3 course options starting at around £15.00. You need to book... More

Swithered between very good and average. Chose the set menu as was good value for money. Pan fried cod loin with shrimps was fine but a little underdone and quite cold. Lamb casserole was tasty - lamb was well cooked but black pudding appeared to have been added before serving rather than being cooked as part of dish.Potatoes and veg... More

Booking seems advisable, it seems to get busy on certain days. We had a table downstairs which was very nice. The service was not hearty but good, the food was delicious.

We stayed in Bowness for 2 nights at the end of April. We were recommended to visit Jackson's Bistro and we were not disappointed ; in fact, we ate here on both nights. Even though there are a lot of restaurants in Bowness, we returned as my husband fancied the salmon and prawn linguine which I'd had on the Saturday... More

The restaurant is usually very busy and has special deals on in the evening so you do usually have to book. Food choices seem good , and the meat was ooked well .The reason for the average review is the food combinations are sometimes not quite right - eg vegetables that go well with a meat dish are the same... We chose to eat off the set menu as the choices were so appealing and we really couldn't fault anything. Tasty, great portion sizes and such good value too. I would definitely recommend booking a table for downstairs like we did as its much more cosy and atmospheric. Upstairs is where you enter and it feels more like a reception... More
