First of all this place is off the beaten path; don't let that dissuade you. Dykegate Street parallels a street called "The Mall." The place is small, like 5 booths, maybe 10 tables. Where do I begin, the food... just amazing. I had the lamb steaks, my wife had the beef brisquet. Seriously, it's a one of a kind taste.... More

In an expensive town, it was nice to be able to have a good dinner at a reasonable cost one night. The food was fresh and tasty.

We shared a delicious meal of pork belly and grilled fish. The real joy was the pudding. Try it and see the nostalgic surprise that symbolizes the extra care and creativity being used at An Canteen.

Ate there last night, fantastic meal. Lovely fresh seafood, very well presented and tasted great. Very good atmosphere and decor, very reasonable prices. Owned by two brothers, one is the chef and the other deals with customers, both were very friendly.

We enjoyed our selections of crispy pork belly, beef so tender it flaked with a fork, seafood chowder, salad and sticky ribs. Some of the selections for the evening which we would have enjoyed ordering, were already gone. There was a large party (16 or more) and they overwhelmed such a small venue. I believe we would have enjoyed our... More

We were walking around dingle the other night reading restaurant boards when a delightful young woman came out to water the windowboxes. She advised as how,she had just started the day before and that this was a pretty good place. Well it was a great place ! Fresh lamb from the owner's family farm, local veg, pleasant and personable service.... More

We went here on a Sunday night for dinner. The menu is small and changes nightly. It is a small restaurant, so I would recommend reservations. My wife ordered a pork belly dish and I ordered pan seared Hake served over celery root puree. Both dishes were close to perfect. We had chocolate mousse and sticky toffee pudding for desserts.... We wanted to have a really good meal for our 38th anniversary, so we asked lots of locals where to have an intimate great meal. An Canteen came up several times so we gave it a try. Wow! Seems two brothers are working to create a place where quality meals and great service fit together nicely. From the starters, to... More
