We went here late on Tuesday evening and it appeared to be packed - suggest you book for this one. It is loud with seemingly every mover and shaker in Sydney shouting at each other (sometimes I miss carpeted restaurants). A great outlook over the water - though you are not down on the wharf itself. I did make the... More

The only thing that beat the food and service at the Malaya is the outlook. The King Street wharf is the starting place for a number of harbour cruise/dinner cruise boats so it is always busy. The food is excellent. The menu is very good and moderately priced. I mainly went there for business lunches and found it a delightful... More

Good setting overlooking Kings Wharf and Darling Harbour. Nice ambience and attentive staff. Excellent Malaysian and other South East Asian food and a cold beer - James Boag Premium - to die for.

Of course it is not cheap! You do not get this location, these cooks, these service personnel or the fresh ingredients at a bargain price. What you do get are great flavours, great service, a huge buzz &, presupposing that you have chosen a fabulous sunny Sydney autumn afternoon, magnificent ambiance absolutely tailored for a blokes' blowout extended lunch. I introduced to this Sydney eating place when it was in an old butch shop in George Street Sydney, all the people in the advertising world would eat and do deals there, then they opened in North Sydney, and I would eat there, now they have moved up scale and i don't eat there as much, but this Restaurant set the... As an occasional visitor to Sydney, I had not tried this restaurant before. I had lunch there and everything about the experience was excellent: warm greeting on arrival and immediately taken to a table by the window with a great outlook; service throughout the meal was courteaous, helpful and attentive; we had the set meal for two and each dish... Our party of 10 visited the Malaya to celebrate an achievement at work. We had pre-ordered a banquet menu, so the food ordering side was easy. The food was delivered to the table in two lots--a series of shared entrees, and then a selection of mains. The dishes were all good, with several being outstanding. Being a busy & noisy night... More

The month of January took us to the Malaya restaurant. Our waiter attended to our every need & explained dishes well. I must say that the coconut beef rendang is THE dish to try, it's so well made we couldn't stop talking about it all night. A lovely experience with gorgeous views.

Very extensive menu of Malaysian food, and reasonably priced for Sydney. Our waiter carefully explained the menu to us and how the food was prepared. While they overlook the harbor, they are above the other restaurants and accessed from lime street. We saw the sign and went to find them. Great food, drinks, service. Would definitely go there again !
