Great food and nice atmosphere, pork and duck are amazing.Waiting staff are friendly and the castle is full of old charm and a huge blazing fire in the reception area.
Stayed in a few of the self catering cottages. Very pretty location and near Sligo. Houses are well designed and comfortable. The sauna and jacuzzi are a nice addition. Lovely walks on grounds. Had dinner second night of our stay. We rang ahead to make sure they could cater for approx 14. They said no problem. When we arrived they... More
We were celebrating a fairly substantial birthday and enjoyed an experience of a life time! The staff greeted us and were extremely friendly and led us into the most wonderful dining room. The menu was delicious, it was difficult to decide what to order. We had the crab salad followed by monk-fish and lamb, it was cooked to perfection! Very... More
Markree is just a walk away from where we live and my fiancée and I often walk over to it to enjoy a quiet glass of wine and some bar food. The bar menu is limited but always delicious, I would recommend the Rustic Salad :-) There is never any background music on in the hotel and that can be... More
Markree castle is one of the few family run castles left in Ireland operating as a castle hotel. This should be a big selling point for the people who own it. The hotel is old but lacks basics. The lobby and seating areas around it are grubby And dusty. Likewise with the dining areas worn old furniture embedded with germs... More
I think this castle is gorgeous, it brings you back in time when it use to be a battlefield between the O'Briens and McDonaghs. I love the decor of the place as it's mixed between classy and medival. I absoulety love the background as well as it gives a sense of greenary in Ireland!
Nice enough food, wedding was a bit strange as there were 3 interconnecting rooms. This meant that if you were in a different room sitting at the window you couldn't see anything. This didn't bother me as it meant I could go to the bar and toilet whenever I wanted. Waitress spilt sorbet down the back of my partners white... More
unbelievable intimate setting for matrimony! beautiful little chapel in the castle, grounds are fabulous, castle has been used for shooting movies and TV period dramas, great staff, attention to detail first class
We went there to have dinner and we wished we had stayed indoors. The waiting staff were so relaxed they seemed to not notice us sitting down. The presentation of the food was nice covering the whole plate a bit flat though on height and taste. The maincourse was fish and steak with piped potatoes and mushroom and onion with the steak that... On our usual visit to Sligo we chanced upon this place. We were looking for castles as my little boy is doing a project at school. The staff here were so kind, they let us wander around the rooms & grounds taking photos & noting the large open fireplaces. Just trying to imagine the sort of life people led here... More
