It was terrible to hear the news about Chez Panisse, Berkeley’s beloved institution, having to close its doors last month due to fire. Hopefully all will be repaired by June or late May, the reports say. My friends, colleagues, and I, have spent many a meal and countless hours chatting the nights and early afternoons away in the upstairs café.... More

I enjoyed their oven baked pizza for lunch. I liked the crust and it was very tasty. We had great service by friendly, knowledgeable and profesional staff. I loved the decor. I'm sorry about their fire. I look forwards to going next for dinner when Alice Waters reopens.

We love the history of this place and its location. The service, ambiance, and food continue to be very special and a great restaurant to return to when you are in Berkeley. Occasionally some very loud nearby tables are a distraction. But just the luck of the draw.

Prices are reasonable for what you get. It's the place I'd choose when I want to have elegant dining with a friend, just as long as we don't have too much to talk about -- it's a bit noisy.
