We have had clam chowder all over Maine and Mass and keep thinking we will find some as good as Causeway's. Not true! Theirs is the best. Also great are baked haddock, fried haddock, and especially grilled swordfish tips!

The food is nothing great, prices are high and the atmosphere needs a lot of work. Waitresses could use some personality, and some re training. BYOB is a cool concept, I just wish the food was worth the high prices.
Worth the time to go there. Menu has variety, service is fast and friendly. Food portions were more than anyone can eat all at once and very tasty! Good prices as well.
Chicken piccata was like eating a piece of dried out shoe leather. Inedible. Chowder was like a bowl of cream with no flavor at all. Ordered takeout so couldn't send it back or complain. Threw everything in the trash. Waste of money!!!
My lady and I went to Gloucester for a long weekend, Friends had said to try the Causeway, We met my daughter and son in law for dinner. It was about a 50 min wait, but it was worth it. Just a plain dinning room but it was run like a well oiled machine. Now it is a BYOB place,there...

The wait is a real drawback but once you get through that its really worth it. The Causeway is not for those who like a fancy ambiance but enjoy a sort of "Get down Place" serving a healthy dish of Fresh seafood with generous portion sizes. A simple bowl of Fish chowder is a nice meal in itself. Plus you...

The Causeway was located right down the street from our hotel (Castle Manor Inn) and I had read some great reviews of this restaurant before our trip, but it turned out to be a disappointment. It certainly contains a local flavor element, but the food just wasn't that great. My chowder was served cold and had to be sent back...

We went to the Causeway on the recommendation of a local. The restaurant was full of locals which is always a good sign. They don't take reservations so we were told a 40 minute wait on a Saturday evening. After 30 minutes our name was called. We asked a few people who were leaving what they recommended. We were told...

Not particularly our style, fried and heavy, but it is always packed and locals love it! Go next door and purchase alcohol for consumption in the restaurant.
Overall, they have great seafood. Huge portions so two people can easily share a meal! Bring your own wine too! My favorite is their fish chowder, a meal by itself and the best in Gloucester.
