The Pickle Barrel is a great place for ice cream and sub-style sandwiches. The ice cream is delicious with a great variety of special flavors. Deli style rolls are used for their sandwiches which are huge and full of flavorful meats of your choice. You also get a whole pickle with every meal.
Understand, you will not be disappointed with the amount of food provided. HUGE sandwiches! I would only order sandwiches which are "beef" based. It seems the beef is less processed and less slimy than the other meat choices. Keep in mind, this place has kept college students and ski bums from starving to death for about 40 years. Go hungry or share. The hubby & I shared a whole "blue steak" sandwich. Yum, Yum, and messy! If you are not in a hurry this is a much better choice for lunch than chain fast food. Plan ahead there isn't a drive through and everything is made to order so you have to wait a few minutes.
I love the sandwiches here. I recently returned to Bozeman for a vacation and have renewed my love of the sandwiches. The meats and toppings are probably comparable to any sandwich joint, but the bread here makes the sandwiches. It is super soft and moist. The sandwiches are cheap (and huge). Definitely recommended.
What's not to like about this place? A half-size sandwich fills you up. I really liked the blue=cheese-steak.
While visiting Bozeman I ordered sandwiches for two separate picnic outings - both were perfect! Fresh ingredients, modestly priced with meat piled high - PB is a neighborhood gem of a sandwich shop! On more than one occasion I have encountered non-edible items in my sandwich. Last time it was a piece of saran wrap that got mixed in with the lettuce. Most recently it was BROKEN GLASS!!!
