Description: This local, Outer Banks restaurant is now in it's 31st anniversary season. That's probably why it's called a 'Nags Head Tradition' by locals. Open for breakfast and dinner daily - with lunch being added in mid-May. Weekends - spring and fall - and daily in the summer season, there's a robust fruit and breakfast bar plus some whopping good breakfast platters. Specialties are real southern cooking - like fried chicken. Also a specialty - local, Outer Banks seafood - broiled, fried, and always good. Steaks and prime rib round out the dinner menu. The "R" Bar is great for a late night meal or a special drink. The entire restaurant was remodeled in 2009 for a more coastal-comfortable, casual feel. And if all this isn't enough, there's Roxie's Retail - great, flirty finds for your home or wardrobe.

My review is probably colored by the fact we were shown to a table which felt as if it were in the middle of Grand Central Station. I know it is a popular restaurant, particularly for Sunday breakfast, but this table right at the intersection of the kitchen doors and the buffet line should be left empty when they are... More

Well I read your review and thought . . . well, the good news is that we were busy. Being a seasonal restaurant, we only have a few months to BE busy. That said, we don't want anyone visiting the Dunes to have a bad experience - in any way. So if you decide to visit the Outer Banks again... More

I was a little nervous about going back after I read a recent review that said the hushpuppies were not as good as they had been. When we were there last October for our first time at the Dunes, I was amazed at how wonderful the hushpuppies were! I am NOT a fan of hushpuppies, normally. So I was very... More

We ate breakfast here and the portions were very generious! The prices were very good, and the restaurant was very clean. We asked for egg whites instead of the full eggs and they made the sub without charging extra. The gifts they sell out front were all very reasonably priced too.

Coming from the UK, we wanted to experience some true southern style cooking and weren't disappointed. We had fried green tomatoes and pork/egg rolls as appetisers - the fried cornbread [hushpuppies?] was a bit too much friend food for us in one go, but the rest was good. Followed by a crab, scallop and shrimp combo for me and meatloaf... More

The Dunes is a mainstay for breakfast. Conveniently located on the bypass across from Tanger Outlets, Dunes offers a buffet as well as a breakfast menu. My shrimp and grits were very good.

Got a big delicious breakfast (2 huge pancakes, 2 fluffy eggs, and a good portion of hashbrowns) for 5 bucks. I could have gone the rest of the day without eating. Staff was very friendly.

We love all the great items made to order off of the menu and the kids love the great breakfast menu. Our coffee mugs always stay filled by the great wait staff. We go there quite a bit. We are locals from KDH.

Good service, a gracious welcome and food that isn't fancy but was well prepared. We'd definitely go back for breakfast.

Our waitress this trip was Lyudmula and she was very nice and prompt. The place was not busy this evening, probably due to being in the off season. I raved about this place and their hushpuppies to a friend. we went there this trip and the hushpuppies were not the same, they were real rubbery and small. When we come... More
