Unfortunately my review is limited to service only as we did not get a chance to taste their apparently amazing food. We were a family with a small child and arrived approximately 30 minutes after their lunch closing time of 2pm. We had driven 3 hours from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and had come specifically to Manago Hotel because of... More

We stayed in a family room, ie the kids room was accessed from the balcony. Great price and wonderful view, this building has a wonderful history and pleasing ambiance. If you are a couple, request the 3rd floor founders room. It is a traditional japanese bedroom, with the futon on the floor, beautiful balcony, and soaking tub in the bathroom.... More

They provide local food at reasonable prices in a restaurant that clearly is a relic from an earlier era. (I mean that in a positive way.) We enjoyed the food, and just being there. It looked like most of the other customers were locals, always a good sign.

Visited April 9, 2013 11:00 am, Party of 2 After leaving KOA airport, we turned left and headed straight to Captain Cook...For my wife & I, this is always our first stop when visiting the West side of the Big Island. What makes this place so great, is its authenticity of an "old school plantation" diner from the 50's. Nothing... More

I hadn`t been back to manago`s for 20 years, but the pork chops are still the best, service friendly and fast, and the prices are unbeatable in the area for dinner. its only open from 5-7 for dinner, so its usually crowded and reservations are suggested. this is not a fancy place, more retro 50`s, as the hotel itself is... Good breakfast with good value. The waitress was friendly and kept me well stocked with coffee. Also, ask for the green tea, it comes in a pot and is excellent.

I always stay at the Manago Hotel when I'm on the Big Island. It is very inexpensive and super clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable but are very basic (small, no TV, no phone). I spend most of my time outside when I am in Hawaii so I don't mind. I like the third floor... More

A great spot to stop for the traveler who likes a hotel with a bit of character. Room was sparkling clean and well appointed (we stayed in the one Japanese-style room). View of the coast from our lanai was priceless. The restaurant is great too. Make a reservation though! We're glad we did. Pork Chops. Onolicious.
