Our first trip to Cowboy Star was for dining for life, kudos and thank to C-* for their support. The service stellar, the steak cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes oddly awesome, kitchen staff accommodating with our desired vegetable change ( 30% of the world will always find asparagus bitter and yucky but the green beans were perfect! The only negatives,... More

I love the Cowboy Star!! I have been in San Diego for years now and this is by far my most favorite steak house. I grew up in the midwest and love a good steak and the Cowboy Star always provides me with a great meal! I also love that it is not too over the top and I feel... More

If you want to escape for a meal, this is the place. The steak was perfectly cooked. The molasses bread was fantastic. The complimentary small bite from the chef was tasty and complex. The wine went perfectly with the meal. Definitely consider the dessert menu - the strawberry shortcake was terrific. Jeremy, the guy who waited on my table, was... More

There's more light around a camp fire than they have over the tables here. It's a struggle to see the menu; the waiter carries a flashlight. Your steak could be perfectly cooked or not and you'd never be able to judge by sight. The food was fine, but nothing extraordinary. However, service was particularly friendly and attentive.

Meat eaters delight. BUT...they have some other great dishes that we recently discovered. My wife loves a wild salmon she gets every time we go and the pan roasted chicken breast is pretty darn good too. The bread pudding dessert is the best Ive ever had. My wife and I don't get deserts and we get this every time. ABSOLUTELY... More

I live downtown San Diego and my husband and I were looking to try new places. The restaurant/bar was fantastic, delicious appetizers and good enough to share. Yummy cocktails and very attentive service. The layout of the restaurant was great and decor hip and unique. Cozy but still classy and unpretentious. Give this place a try for sure and get... More

My husband and I went to Cowboy Star for Valentine's day and it was outstanding! A local, Katie, from Artesia salon and spa recommended it. We would not have known about it otherwise. Everything was perfectly prepared and we had the added treat of sitting at the chef's table. The chef checks every plate before it is served to a... More

A friend of mine had went to the Cowboy Star and could not say enough great things about it. BTW he is a Chef at a high end hotel in San Diego. I set up reservation on line for 2-13-13 hoping to beat the Valentine rush. I did request a booth which I was not sure if they would do... More

We just had dinner at the CS to celebrate our engagement. We had a nice evening, although we didn’t get any comp dessert.  We've eaten at all the high end steakhouses in San Diego. The quality of the food and meat is exceptional. The environment is cool and not stuffy. The service is solid, as you would expect it... More
