Lots of cream cheese favors and good bagels. Super crowded late morning. Still not sure how the line was supposed to work. Sassy NYC stereotype staff compared to the rest of those I encountered around the city. Would have been better if less hectic!

One of the best bagels I have ever had. This New York bagel place is amazing. The line of people is usually to the door but it moves pretty quick. We continue to go back to this place every time we are NYC. If you are looking to seat inside this place to eat your bagel be ready to be... More

Always loved bagels, looked forward to going to NYC and sampling good NYC deli's. My sister told me 'bout this place. What a gem!!! After having morning coffee & bagels with wife.....we bought 40 to bring home. What else can I say??? MMmmmmm

We called in for bagels mid afternoon after the lunchtime rush. We had the smoked salmon bagel with far too much cream cheese which we carefully removed. Was great to sit and watch the range of customers coming in to stock up on bagels and flavoured creamcheeses. We were glad we made the effort to find it.

I when to this bagel restaurant with the sole purpose of writing a review, this is what I found. Let’s start with location; getting there was a pain this place is too retreat from the middle of the city, no subway or anything (taxi or long walk), so getting there is the first thing you are not going to enjoy.... These big bagels are really wonderful. They're crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. They do go a bit overboard on the cream cheese so you might want to ask them to go lightly or just ask for it on the side. If you're eating in, be prepared to fight for a table and don't expect... I was so excited to go to Ess-a-bagel since it was on almost everyone's "best" list. The bagels were good but it was hard to enjoy them since they were smothered with cream cheese. If I could do it over I would order one with just butter so I could enjoy the taste of the bagel.

This is the king. I've been buying Ess-a for years and years. Like both locations in NYC... particularly like the poppy seed. The bagels are often so large that sometimes I have to slice them into thirds. I buy a dozen (13), slice them, and freeze the ones I'm not going to use immediately. Then just thaw as needed or... Very much like the other best bagel shops in NYC, they do not toast, and the funny staff here will tell you that immediately! This place is super busy, and I literally had to stand and eat my whole wheat with lox spread and down my coffee. As for the bagel: crispy on the outside, chewy and flavourful inside. IMHO,... More

A visit to NYC is not complete with bagels, and Ess-a-Bagel's are the best in town! I especially love the pumpernickel, sesame, and salt bagels. If I have time and am in the area, I usually order a nova lox and bagel sandwich. Otherwise, I just get half a dozen or so bagels to go. Oh, and you don't go... More
