This is just one of those places that you have to try. Home-style cooking in a family atmosphere and a real taste of the south. No bookings are taken, so be prepared to queue for about an hour. Once inside you'll join 10 other people at family tables with a wonderful selection of food to self serve. Be sure you... More

It was a toss-up (at first) between Mrs. Wilkes & Lady and Sons - but we had to go with the Trip Advisor reviews. Mrs. Wilkes was wonderful! I do have to say, for us - way too much food! But that was OK - we enjoyed all we ate! We arrived at 10:15am - and were able to get... More

A trip to Savannah is not complete without a visit to Mrs. WIlkes! We planned our trip around this place because they are only open M-F and we were there for the weekend only so we left early so we'd get there before they closed. I understand that if you are in line before 2:00 they will serve you. We... More

We did a day trip to Savannah from Charleston and planned our day around our 11 a.m. meal at Mrs. Wilkes. Even President Obama dined there! We got in line early and discovered the home is on one of the most picturesque streets in the area, with beautiful wrought iron railings and charming flowerboxes. It wasn't necessary to get there... I went to Mrs. Wilkes when I was a kid, and brought my daughter back 35 years later-- waited 1.25 hours on a Friday, it was awesome and worth the wait. We then had a walking tour so we walked it off (well, maybe a little). It was fantastic!

This was my second visit to Mrs. Wilkes' and my impression remains the same... Why on earth do throngs of people continue to wait in line outside this establishment for an extended period of time for this experience and then RAVE about the food??? People, if this is Southern home cookin', then your mama heated up food from a can!... More

Because Mrs. Wilke's is only open Monday through Friday from 11am-2pm, we barely made it into the restaurant on our way out of Savannah at 1:30 on a Monday. We had to wait in a line, but it was in a beautiful part of the city and well worth the wait. Once inside, you are seated at a table for... More

Okay so maybe it is a tourist trap. Okay so maybe you have to sit with strangers. I am a foodie and I will tell you this is good old fashioned comfort food. The mac and cheese, the stuffing, the black eyed peas and fried chicken are all amazing. The beets are the best you have ever had. Go ahead... More

On a recent day trip to Savannah, we opted for lunch in the Historic District. The two "go to" tourist choices are: Paula Deen's Lady and Sons or Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House. Based on the online ratings and some local opinions, we chose Mrs. Wilkes. If you go, be advised that this place: 1) is only open for lunch -... More

I would never make a trip to Savannah again without coming here. Heck, even if I was even just in the state of Savannah, I would make a trip to go here. There are so many wonderful aspects of this place. I don't want to describe too much of it, because it was a surprise to us of how wonderful... More
