Description: Experience the beauty of the Pacific Ocean at The Fish Hopper Seafood and Steak, overlooking Kailua Bay on the Big Island Hawaii. Enjoy fresh seafood from Hawaii and fresh seafood flown in weekly from California, plus our signature Bucket of Fire and Volcano flaming drinks, all within walking distance to shops and historic sites. A landmark (formerly the Ocean View Inn) and a local’s favorite Kona restaurant since 1934, the building housing The Fish Hopper has been beautifully restored to expand upon its spectacular ocean views. We proudly serve seafood from sustainable sources, harvested by methods that do not harm the environment.

Yes, it is a tourist attraction, however, sitting at the closest table across from the ocean was a good experience. We ate lunch there on a Sunday and the streets were bustling with fairs, "strolls" and chaos. The staff was friendly and the service was good. We weren't rushed and the food was good. I recommend it for the combination... More

This restaurant has a primo location with great view of Kailua Bay, Kailua Pier and downtown shoreline. At any time, you can view swimmers, outrigger canoes, paddleboarders, commercial boats, cruise ships, etc. in the bay while you drink or dine. If possible, it is best to get a table by the open windows which face the street and the bay... More

We got roped in by on the street employees. I admit a good for business tactic. We were hungry and returning to Hwys 190/200 for pick up for the Mauna Kea Summit Adventures. Food ok, but not special and price a little much. Typical beach restaurant/bar place. It was nice to drink a glass of wine and look out over... More

For a restaurant with a great seafood reputation , the breakfast was very disappointing. The Ono ,was a contradiction in terms...it was not eating. After waiting over 15 minutes in a restaurant where the staff outnumbered the customers, the Ono came out overcooked and unedible . The fish was replaced with mahi ,which was fine. My frittata was good with... More

We had several meals at Fish Hopper - standards held fast! The food is very good, the presentation beautiful! Open air but covered, nice restaurant with good views, serve award-winning Kona coffee, very good drinks! A tad expensive on some dishes, but certainly not all!

Being a Kailua-Kona Resident for few years and not having been to "The Fish Hopper" for a while. Things in some local facilities recently visited had diminished in quality and service so decided to move on. My great experience started with going online to "Open Table", an online reservations site.It was a professional company to deal with. Not only did... More

We had a superb Cobb Salad with Shrimp in the afternoon. It was served in a timely fashion by a very personable waitperson. It was tasty & plentiful with an excellent dressing. In fact, we returned for the same on another day and received the same attentive service. We had no wait on either day and were seated overlooking the... More

My husband and I had dinner here one night in Kona. We had great service and the food was OUTSTANDING! They had the typical fried seafood and burgers. We ordered from the specials and got very high end looking entrees that were equally delicious and cooked perfectly. This place may look similar to other open air places along Alii Drive,... More

I know why they put this place here and serve the food that it does. TOURISTS. I think the decor and food are just ok, but the view is killer and so are the cocktails. Wow! The Bloody Mary was amazing. About 12 oz with 3 huge prawns, celery, olives, carrots and lime. Perfectly crafted and beautiful presentation. We opted... More

We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon at the Fish Hopper Seafood & Steaks Restaurant. Not a good day to be downtown Kona. If you follow my blog then you know, Wednesday is cruise ship day. Thus we had a 15 minute wait in slow, relaxed Kona town. Since we are all about the ambience, we requested a bay front view... More
