Great home cooking. 2 couples 60+. We all had the daily special which was southern fried chicken. Delicious. Special comes with your choice of drink, potato, coleslaw, vegetables, homemade bread, and pie. We chose twice baked potato, thick whole wheat bread, homemade lemonade, and coffee....Vegetables were green and yellow beans with carrots. There is a great assortment of 15 different pies to choose from. We had lemon, coconut cream, and raspberry cream. All delicious. Great service. Would highly recommend. For this meal, which is the small, $15.99/person.More

My Dad and I happened upon this restaurant quite by accident and were not disappointed. The food was delicious and was served within short order.

I had the turkey dinner. The stuffing was awful, a piece of pie was included with my meal. I chose apple. It was the worst piece of apple pie I have ever had. The crust was burnt and there was hardly any apple slices in...the pie. It was a generous portion of food but lacked quality. Disappointed.More

I arranged to meet with 2 different staff members consecutively for coffee and tea. During the meeting with the second staff member, we were running into the second hour. When approached about it, the kind woman explained, very politely, that it was now their lunch...hour and they were very busy and they could really use our table. BUT, instead of just kicking us out, which would have been reasonable and understandable, she offered her basement space to us so that we could finish our meeting. I was very grateful, and impressed with this solution.More

Well did we ever find a gem in this little town. This was one of the highlights of our day. First our server was punctual and pleasant. We all ordered the breaded fish special which came with a drink, bread, and dessert. Let me tell...you, this was a very good meal. We raved about it the whole day and can’t wait to go back in 2 weeks. The dessert section will blow you away and my carrot cake was to die for.. GO NOW!More

Good food, nice atmosphere, nice decor, reasonably priced. Only open Thursday and Friday evenings however. Open every morning very early for breakfast, except never open on a Sunday. Great gift shop.

Long line up for breakfast was the harbinger of the popularity of this restaurant. Service is extremely friendly, restaurant is very clean and quaintly decorated. Food took a long time to come to the table but when it did it was nicely presented and portions...were a decent size. Food was only average tasting and not particularly hot. After lunch we visited the attached gift shop. Lots of really nice items for very reasonable prices, my $15 lunch was cheap in comparison to the $250 I spent in the gift shop.More

Really great bang for your buck: seating is quick, service is friendly, food portions are big and tasty, and cost is very reasonable. Definitely a family restaurant: lots of seniors come here too and there is a queue if you don't get there before 11:30...am. Lots of options on the menu, daily specials and home-baked pies, for which this place is known. You pay your bill in the large adjoining gift shop, which is also where the washrooms are located. Wheelchair accessible.More

Friendly service, excellent home cooked meals, truly wonderful home baked pies and tarts. Reasonable amount of parking, beautiful gift shop. But it gets VERY busy over the lunch hour from 11:15 to 1:00 so expect line ups unless you arrive earlier or later.

Thought there were seated with in 5 minutes. Within a couple of minutes the waitress came took our drink order and our food order. Was Friday night special was the barbecued ribs which we all had. Three of us had the barbecue ribs with double...baked potato sour cream and butter and turn up as a vegetable small coleslaw came with the meal. My dinner was the barbecued ribs with french fries and the turnip is a vegetable. I started off for the garden salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing in a slice of homemade bread with butter. Our meals came with dessert one person had banana cream pie my wife had peanut butter chocolate pie I had blueberry pie and another person head butterscotch creampie. All the meals we're outstanding the ribs were tender succulent fall off the bone fantastic. The barbecue sauce is sweet and also outstanding my fries were good. The turnip was fantastic. Three of the people that had the double baked potato with sour cream and butter thought the potatoes were a little over spiced with seasoning salt. But still edible but pretty salty according to the three that had that. I had the fries so I had no problem. The restaurant is clean the service was great the food was great the Ambiance of the room what's good we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. If my dinner party had any complaints it was that maybe they could back off the seasoning salt on the double baked potato a little bit. Other than that the meal was outstanding and the service. I was very impressed and I definitely will return. Far as I'm concerned the best barbecue ribs I've had in a long long time. I would highly recommend this establishment to family and friends.More

Went there with about a dozen or so friends. Have visited before and had their excellent breakfasts but this was my first time visiting for lunch The restaurant is quite large but could even be larger. There were people waiting for tables throughout our meal....However the service is quick and things seemed to move along well. All dishes here seem to be large. I enjoyed an excellent mandarin chicken salad which had just the right amount of dressing. The serving was quite large. The chicken was cooked just right and was a very good quantity. Schmitsville is famous for their pies. My choice was a cherry pie which was delicious. Their coffee is excellent. The restaurant includes a gift shop which carries a lot of items and many which people love to buy. Many of the people bought gift items for friends or home decorations. The restaurant is fully equipped to serve the handicapped of which I am one. There are men’s and ladies toilets as well as a large family washroom. Everyone in our groupm seemed pleased with the service and hoped that we could get back there soon. The only part that could be improved is the bill paying which is done at the front. An extra cashier would help speed up the process in this areaMore

I have never seen a wheelchair ramp. And if the person in the wheelchair had to use the washroom, it is not accessible.
