Let me ask this: Who has lost luggage on a direct flight??
The world's best hotels. Get the list.

Err - me.
Me too, only once.
Why?
"sort of" - why do you ask?
Me -but it turned up
Direct, indirect, what difference does it make?
Yes only once and it was delivered to my hotel 4 hours later
I posed the question because I had wondered if the large percentage of lost luggage was due to transfers on a journey.
Just interested----that's all.
I too have had delayed bags on both non-stop and direct flights (there's a difference).
The more connections you have, the greater the chance of your bags going on their own trip. Same with the tightness of connection.
Checkin time (bag drop) also has an impact. Too early in some places and your bag is likely to take an alternate path to your destination and alternate paths can see delays that you don't. Too late and it can be delayed by security screening (they don't care).
Zippers, tags, belts hanging off the leading edge (think "top") can lead to jam situations and delay if not damage.
So there are a bunch of factors that can be at least partially managed... minimize the number of connections and avoid tight connections, arrive at the right time, have stable (non-round) bags without stuff hanging from them, and *always* wave good-bye to your bag otherwise it will get mad at you and go someplace else.

That's definitely a big factor (hardly a shock). I've seen lost luggage statistics and low cost carriers that are only point-to-point come off much better in those than traditional airlines.
Are you really asking about losing luggage on a nonstop flight. Direct and nonstop are not the same things.
