I understand that all airlines have problems and issues. For instance, whilst flying from Delhi to Dehradun with Jet Airlines recently we had to circle round the airport for 2 hours and then return to Dehli due to bad weather, this wasn't the airlines fault but they kept passengers informed and paid for hotels for passengers such as myself who were transiting through Delhi from Varanasi, it was all quite a hassle but I was impressed with the way Jet handled things in a difficult situation.

Now let's take Spicejet, I booked a flight to Srinagar many months in advance, turned up at the airport only to be told that they had decided to cancel this flight weeks ago, for unknown logistical reasons. They had not bothered to inform me in any way whatsoever, either by email or phone number - they had correct versions of both as that's how they sent me my e-ticket. The flat refusal to take any responsibility for this lack of communication is a serious let down and frankly just awful customer service. It cost me an extra night in Dehli, a lost night in Srinigar and all the travel costs to and from the airport. Not even an apology from the staff let alone an offer to put us up in an airport hotel due to their error, almost just a shrug and 'what do you expect, this is Spice Jet' - well, lesson learned. I will never fly this airline again, I will always choose Jet Airways or Air India as at least they tend to value their customers.

Very poor stuff Spice Jet. You mismanaged the entire situation, failed to take any responsibility, made your customers feel as if it was their fault, not even an apology offered.

Great way to run your business in the 21st century. Great job. Building up some great Karma.

Another example of why passengers need to keep an eye on their bookings.

Yep - you're not wrong.

Everything had run so smoothly with flights up until then, I had been lulled into a false sense of security!

Just very disappointed with the reaction of the staff compared with that of other airlines.

"Another example of why passengers need to keep an eye on their bookings."

======

Exactly. While it's quite possible Spicejet failed to email you, it's equally possible that they did and the message didn't get through; it could have been filtered into your spam folder or even by your ISP and not made it.

And you especially need to watch reservations with Soicejet as they're an airline in transition. They were on the brink of bankruptcy earlier this year but appear to have turned things around. But that turning things around has involved cutting some flights and routes altogether.

I personally wouldn't fly Spicejet. Within India I fly Jet Airways and Indigo. But I check my reservations on those and all airlines frequently, like you should have done here.

Yea, I hear what you're saying but I can assure you that no email was sent or received by me, perhaps it was blocked by the ISP but given the fact the e-tickets came through without any problems I find that extremely unlikely. Much more likely an oversight that they are unwilling to admit to, big surprise.

No problem for them, big problem for their customer, doesn't seem like there was any interest in that though.

Anyway - more reputable airlines in future, that's for sure!

as mentioned the lesson learned is to monitor your flights. I use a combo of Tripit and the airlines website to check my itinerary and even if that was not done, if you had looked 24 hours in advance to check in, this issue would have shown up. It is a pain to book your travel last minute when such things happen

I have only used Jet Airways and the old Kingfisher and so far the flights and crew have been great Their call center is not well trained (at least the people I spoke to) but other than that they are ok.

You can't rely on being informed, unfortunately. In a perfect world, there would be no oversights, no technical glitches, no mistyped email addresses, no failed delivery, and no spam filters.

As we don't live in such a world, we need to take responsibility for ourselves.

I am always surprised that the large number of people that simply assume someone is going to take care of them and/or everything is going to work out. It's your flight, you need to check it on a regular basis. You can't rely on the airline to notify you.

Hmmmm, yes that's some great moralising but I fear you missed the main point.

Yes, these things can and do happen in life but it was the discourteous and rude way in which the staff handled the situation that was not acceptable or indicative of any other airline exeriemce I've had in this wonderful country.

If you think that's just normal I feel sorry for the way you've been treated in life.

Most of the staff of the many airlines I've used here have had an excellent and caring attitude towards their customers.

There are complaints of rude staff at airports in just about every part of the world and relating to almost every airline in existence. Often, it seems to be when people don't get what they want, or believe they are entitled to, that staff become rude.

Travelling in India is a bit more exciting than in other continents.

SpiceJet had very serious problems in 2014 and the recent change in ownership still needs to prove results. Hence booking SpiceJet one knows that things can go wrong. Booking a low cost carrier one should also know what to expect.

I think that Jet and Indigo are doing a fair job in India. But if you look at passenger numbers Spice is growing (loc cost??).

I think you could have know better before but would agree with your out-take: <<'what do you expect, this is Spice Jet' - well, lesson learned.>>
