 Hobbs Bistro - Croyde

Beware the ambience the food is mediocre and my friend and I had an awful experience with "vacuum packed" fillet steak - are there no cows in Devon? Was told "all the others have been alright tonight" before they eventually acknowledged there was something dreadfully wrong with the batch.

Hobbs bistro is such an amazing bistro. The staff are so warm friendly and welcoming and are full of life and energy while ensuring we have a lovely meal and time. The menu is fantastic and the sea bass is a big hit with our family and i have to say the creamy potatoes are there trade mark.

The puddings are truly WOW!!!!!.

The music is perfect and is not to loud and very suited to the bistro.

If you visit croyde it is a must.Do NOT!! let the above post put you off.The steak is wonderful to.

I also know they now do takeaway pizza's so its a perfect time to visit the bistro and see for yourself how amazing it is.Currently there is to members of staff who work out front called Michelle and Adam and they are both full of smiles and make the evening.

Enjoy because there aint many bistros like this anymore.

Thank you Beth James

We have just had a meal there and were surprised somewhat at the evening.

Firstly one of the waitresses was less than helpful and was not willing to get us some extra ice or let our 4 year old share some the of the 2 pizzas we had ordered for the 2 11 year olds we had in our party, whic was 7 in total, as everyone has to order a main meal. Whilst we understand this we felt it a bit 'jobsworth' considering there 7 of us.

2 of our 6 starters were disappointing and were something we could have easily done better at home.

The steaks were great, if not a bit overpriced, but the vegetables were bland. The lemon sole was very good however the chicken was poor and uninspiring and again is something we could have done much better at home.

We did complain (about the chicken only) politely to the waitress, and eventually one of our party was asked to go to the kitchen to discuss the issue and was basically insulted by the chef and the waitress denied all knowledge of the complaint.

All in all the food was good however the customer service was poor and the way the complaint was dealt with was very poor.

The bill came to £200 and if the complaint had been better dealt with we would go back. We were not asking for any money off or anything else, but wanted to give some feedback which to be honest the chef and his ego did not want to hear.

I would love to see him on Ramsays Kitchen Nightmares!

Our family have been going to Hobbs for the last 8 years and to date we have had a fantastic meal on every occasion. Yes we have children too and find Hobbs is not really suited to young children due to the size and type of resturant it is. But every year they have made ourselfs and our children feel at ease.

We are all in business to make money and sharing 1 PIZZA between 3 is a little cheeky in my opinion.

1. Vegtables usally are bland ?

2. Why choose chicken that you can make at home.Choose something different ? Live a little.

3.Someone needs to get a life complaining about a piece of chicken.Really !!!

4.Try a pub,it may be more suitable to you and your family.

5.Why not stay at home and cook then.Be much cheaper im sure !!

Im sure many others will agree.

YOU NEED TO GET OUT MORE!!

Also had really awful experience here. Real shame as the place is really lovely and romantic looking with nice ambience inside. We were waiting ages for our food and when it arrived it was awful, the restaurant positions it as a place for foodies but the food has to be the worst I've experienced. The other 3 people I dined with were also really unhappy with the food which had little care or thought put into it, and for £10 a course we'd definitely expected more. This place is always really busy but I am guessing the backbone of its business comes from tourists who are lured in my the cosy atmosphere and promise of gourmet food, a real disappointment. The Thatch and Billy Budds next door do way better food so I'd give these a try instead.
